Eintracht Frankfurt – Vfl Bochum
Fans can look forward to an exciting weekend of soccer, as the Bundesliga once again has some thrilling matches on the program. On Saturday afternoon of matchday 21, Eintracht Frankfurt will face off against VfL Bochum, among others. Both teams need points to achieve their respective goals for the season and are under pressure due to their performances in recent weeks. Find out who will win this duel and who you should bet on in our Frankfurt – Bochum betting tip.
Frankfurt failed to extend their lead in the battle for the international places at the weekend, as the team clearly lost out to relegation candidates Cologne. Coach Dino Toppmöller’s team are still looking for consistency this calendar year.
Bochum picked up just one point in their home game against Augsburg last week and are still dangerously close to the relegation zone. Taking something tangible away from Frankfurt would be important to prevent the gap to the relegation zone from shrinking even further

Frankfurt Form & Balance Check
Since the winter break, Eintracht have been on an up-and-down run. With the two wins against Leipzig and Mainz, the team picked up a strong three points, but failed to impress in the games against relegation candidates Darmstadt and Cologne. In total, the team picked up seven points from the last four games. Frankfurt are lucky that their closest rivals Freiburg and Hoffenheim are also currently on the back foot, meaning the Hessians remain in sixth place. The gap to Freiburg in seventh place is still five points.
In the last match against Cologne, Frankfurt were uninspired and made a lot of bad passes. From Eintracht’s point of view, it was a bitter pill to swallow that two players, Niels Nkounkou and Tuta, were sent off and will therefore miss the game against Bochum
Without a move to goal
One statistic should give coach Toppmöller food for thought. No team in the league shoots less often at the opponent’s goal than Frankfurt. Over the course of the season, 208 shots on goal were officially recorded in 20 games. Even 1. FC Köln, the worst offense in terms of goals, is even more active in the final third with 242 shots on goal. If the Eagles do not improve offensively, the current trend reversal will be difficult to stop and Frankfurt could lose pole position for the international places
Frankfurt facts & analysis
- Sixth place in the table
- Lost 2-0 last time out
- Won last three home games
Bochum Form & Balance Sheet Check
Bochum have picked up five points from their last four games. The surprise win against Stuttgart three weeks ago was followed by a 3:1 defeat against Dortmund and the most recent draw with FC Augsburg. The draw was unnecessary from Bochum’s point of view, as a late penalty saved Augsburg a point at VfL.
The team is in 14th place in the table with 21 points and is only six points clear of the relegation places due to Cologne’s win last weekend. It would be important to pick up at least one point against Frankfurt, as they then face the record champions from Munich
Away too little
One reason why Bochum have been unable to really pull away from the relegation places is the weakness of the gray mice away from home. They have only managed one away win this season. However, the 2:1 win against bottom club Darmstadt 98 was eleven matchdays ago.
The away weakness is mainly due to the disastrous defense on foreign turf, where VfL has already conceded 27 goals and has a goal difference of -20, which is the most away goals in the league. Perhaps Bochum will manage to improve on this statistic in Frankfurt
Bochum facts & analysis
- Place 14 in the table
- Last game played to a draw
- Most away goals conceded in the league
We expect one or two changes to Frankfurt’s 4-3-3 system compared to the starting line-up in the last game. Aurélio Buta and Philipp Max will replace the suspended Nkounkou and Tuta in the two full-back positions. In attack, Farès Chaïbi could once again get a chance from the start.
Bochum could also introduce some new players to the starting eleven. Japan’s Takuma Asano returns from the Asian Games and could come straight into the starting eleven. In defense, we expect Keven Schlotterbeck back in the back four. The team mirrors the Frankfurt system and also plays with a 4-3-3 formation
