After soccer fans were served up some tasty treats in the European Cup during the week, this weekend’s action is no less top-class. Borussia Dortmund and Bayer Leverkusen will play the top match on Sunday.
BVB once again celebrated a magical night at Signal Iduna Park on Tuesday evening. With a spectacular 4:2 victory against Atlético Madrid, they are in the semi-finals of the Champions League and had every reason to celebrate. However, the focus must now quickly return to the Bundesliga, as BVB are fighting to be allowed to play in the top flight again next year.
The newly crowned champions from Leverkusen are still on cloud nine. After celebrating to the full after the win against Bremen, Xabi Alonso’s team also managed to book their Europa League semi-final ticket on Thursday in London thanks to Jeremie Frimpong’s late equalizer and are still in the hunt for the title.

Dortmund Form & Balance Check
The win against Atletico and thus reaching the top 4 teams in Europe is balm for the soul for Borussia in a difficult season. However, there is not much time to celebrate, as BVB are in the chasing pack in the battle for the Champions League places in the league.

Dortmund’s Marcel Sabitzer is worth his weight in gold for Borussia at this stage of the season. In the last Bundesliga match against Gladbach, the Austrian scored a brace to help his team pick up an important three points. He continued his strong performance against Atletico and became the match-winner of the game.
First he set up the goals for Ian Maatsen and Niclas Füllkrug, and then he finally set the stadium alight with his goal to make the score 4:2. Leverkusen should therefore be warned, as the 30-year-old Sabitzer will naturally want to help his team to victory against the Werkself and inflict Bayer’s first defeat of the season.

Leverkusen Form & Balance Check
Leverkusen’s run of form continues. After clinching their first championship in the club’s history early on last weekend with their 5:0 victory over Bremen, they also reached the next round of the Europa League during the week. With the DFB Cup final still to come, there is still a chance of winning the treble.
The Werkself remain unbeaten in all competitions and the 1:1 draw against West Ham during the week was their first loss of points after eight wins in a row. Leverkusen remain the measure of all things in German soccer at this stage of the season and still seem invincible
Save or stay in the flow?
The fact that the Werkself already have the championship title in the bag five match days before the end gives coach Alonso the opportunity to rest some of his regular players in the league from now on. Bayer are still playing in three competitions and want to win two more titles. Alonso can currently draw on a full squad and would also have the opportunity to give young players, such as the Brazilian Arthur or Gustavo Puerta, who have hardly featured so far, a chance to show what they can do.
In addition, regular players can regenerate better in order to bundle their strengths for the upcoming tasks.
