Dortmund Form & Balance Check
It just keeps going, there is no other way to explain BVB’s current form. Dortmund won at Hoffenheim last weekend as well. Not so long ago they would have only got a draw in this game or even lost in the end. But BVB narrowly won 1:0 in Kraichgau, with Julian Brandt once again providing the golden goal of the day. With eight goals and four assists, he has been in excellent form this season.
Dortmund will again rely on their home strength on Friday. This season, only Bremen (3:2) have won at Signal Iduna Park. In addition, there has been one draw and eight victories. In their last home match, BVB won 4:1 against Hertha.
Fearful opponent RB Leipzig
Dortmund know what opponent they will face on Friday night. The Black and Yellows have looked anything but good against the Saxons from Leipzig in recent games. In the first leg they lost 0:3 and this defeat was already the third in a row. In the last home match against RB, a 1:4 defeat was the highest ever against the Saxons. Such a result is not necessarily to be expected on Friday, as Dortmund’s defence has stabilised noticeably. In their ten home games, Dortmund conceded ten goals. This makes BVB one of the best defenses in home games.
Dortmund facts & analysis
– Last win against Hoffenheim.
– Won all games in 2023
– Currently ranked 2nd
Leipzig form & balance check
With only one defeat in recent weeks and months, there is no question that they can call themselves a contender for a possible championship. RB is back on track after the draw against Cologne and the defeat against Union. A few weeks ago, they won 3-0 in Wolfsburg and on the last matchday, the Saxons secured three important points with a 2-1 home win over Frankfurt.
RB have won three of their last five games and everything is still possible for the Saxons in the top flight. A 1-1 draw against Man City last week means Leipzig can still hope to reach the quarter-finals.
Home good, away bad
Many fans of the Saxons will surely ask themselves, what would have been possible if we had scored more points away from home? RB may be the best home team in the league, but on away grounds the Saxons are only sixth in the table. It is good for the Saxons that Christopher Nkunku could possibly make his comeback in the starting eleven on Friday evening. The Frenchman was substituted in the last two games and it was easy to see that he is immensely important for the Red Bulls’ game with his scoring threat.
Leipzig facts & analysis
– 3 wins from last 5 matches.
– Last win with 2:1 against Frankfurt
– Currently in 4th place
Predicted line-up – last update on 1 March 2023
There are no major changes at BVB compared to the last weeks and months. Dortmund will again play in their usual 4-1-4-1. Wolff will play at right back, Guerreiro on the left. Can will again play on the six. Brandt, together with Malen, will play on the flanks. Haller plays as the only top player at the front.
The opponents from Leipzig will play a classic 4-4-2. The Saxons are happy about the return of Nkunku. The Frenchman will play up front together with Silva. Raum has to sit on the bench again, Halstenberg plays left back. Werner will start on the right side.
