Dortmund Form & Balance Check
For Dortmund, as mentioned above, nothing is at stake in the league. And they seem to have approached the last game with the same attitude. Away against Mainz, who are still fighting for direct relegation, Borussia looked out of sorts right from the start. Mainz dominated the game and were able to take advantage of the opening phase to take a 3-0 lead after just 23 minutes. The momentum of the game did not change much thereafter and Dortmund were unable to find a good approach after the break.
Dortmund’s last few weeks in the league have been quite mixed, but Dortmund no longer take it particularly seriously. Having reached the Champions League final, all priorities are now focused on winning this competition. They have only won two and drawn one of their last five league games, and deservedly lost to Leipzig and Mainz. That still leaves them in fifth place in the overall table, where they will finish the season regardless of the outcome of this game.
Unbeaten against Darmstadt
Although the two teams have only met ten times, a certain pattern is slowly developing. Because five of these encounters have taken place at Signal-Iduna-Park and BVB have lost none of these five games against Darmstadt. With a goal difference of 16:4, Borussia underpinned their good home performance against the Lilies and will naturally want to build on this performance
Dortmund facts & analysis
- Never lost at home to Darmstadt
- Last game lost
- Fifth place in the table
Darmstadt Form & Balance Check
Darmstadt seem to have already finished this season in their minds. In their last Bundesliga home game for an indefinite period, Thorsten Lieberknecht’s team once again showed their worst side. They were 2-0 down after just six minutes against Hoffenheim and the horror was only just beginning. TSG made no attempt whatsoever to shift down a gear and by the break Darmstadt were already 5-0 down. The sixth goal conceded shortly after the break was also the last and so Darmstadt bid a less than dignified farewell to the Bundesliga in front of their home crowd.
Of course, Darmstadt’s season is not one to brag about. They only won one of their last five games and lost the rest. These results have left them in penultimate place in the form table with a goal difference of 2:11. They are therefore already certain of being relegated before the final matchday and will probably just try to enjoy this game in front of a strong crowd.
Shooting gallery of the league
No other team has conceded as many goals as Darmstadt this season. And by some distance. With 82 goals conceded, they have conceded twelve more than the second-worst defense. They have conceded a total of ten goals in their last three games and have not managed to score a single one themselves. So it could be a bitter afternoon for the Lilies
Darmstadt facts & analysis
- Already relegated
- Lost last three games
- Badest defense in the league
It can be assumed that Dortmund will see this match as a dress rehearsal before the final of the premier class. Edin Terzić will therefore start again in a 4-2-3-1 and send out the same eleven that was on the pitch in the second leg against PSG. Compared to last week, that’s quite a few changes in terms of personnel.
Thorsten Lieberknecht’s team will probably start in a 3-4-3 again. He will be without central defender Müller (yellow card suspension), with Isherwood moving into the center. Gjasula is an option for the defensive midfield and Seydel could start in place of Vilhelmsson, who has been unlucky of late. Whether there will be further changes is unclear
