Borussia Dortmund – VfL Bochum
The 19th matchday of the Bundesliga is coming up this weekend. There are some exciting and groundbreaking matches on the program. The championship and Champions League qualification are more exciting than they have been for a long time. But there are also few points separating the teams in the relegation battle and every point can mean a better position in the table. BVB await VfL Bochum at Signal-Iduna Park at the end of the matchday. Of course, the teams are in different positions, but both need the points. Find out who will win this clash and who you should bet on in our Dortmund – Bochum betting tip.
BVB have made a strong start to the new year after a short period of weakness before the winter break. The recent 4:0 win against Cologne shows that Dortmund want to attack in the second half of the season and reclaim their Champions League place. With a win, they could overtake the competition.
Bochum, on the other hand, are still fighting for points in the relegation battle. They picked up an incredibly important win against VfB Stuttgart last weekend and were thus able to secure a small lead over the relegation places. However, BVB are certainly not an easier opponent on the schedule this week

Dortmund Form & Balance Check
BVB returned from the winter break and back into the race for the Champions League places with two strong statement wins. The Black & Yellows are currently in fifth place, but the slip-ups by Bayern, Leipzig and Leverkusen last weekend have put them within striking distance. With 33 points, coach Edin Terzić’s team are level on points with Leipzig in fourth place and one point behind Stuttgart in third.
Should BVB secure a third successive three-pointer this weekend, they could overtake Leipzig and Stuttgart. Borussia’s current hunger for goals is particularly remarkable, as the Westphalians have scored a strong seven goals in their last two games, thus also working on the potentially important goal difference
Holland-Connection
Dortmund secured the services of defender Ian Maatsen during the winter break. The Dutchman joins on loan from Chelsea FC until the end of the season and immediately fitted into BVB’s defensive line. Not only does he keep the left wing clean, he also showed his attacking qualities against Cologne and scored his first goal. With his pass to compatriot Donyell Malen, Maatsen set the stage for the interim 3:0 and finally set the course for victory.
The Dutch connection seems to be getting on well. What the Dutchmen have in common is that they spent some of their youth spells in the English capital, albeit at different clubs. Malen played for Arsenal FC’s U21s and U23s, while Maatsen played in the Chelsea academy

Bochum Form & Balance Check
VfL were able to celebrate a kind of liberation last weekend. The 1:0 win against third-placed Stuttgart shows that Bochum also worked well during the winter break and were able to collect four points from two games in the new year. In the table, the team consolidated its position ahead of the relegation candidates and pulled nine points clear of the relegation zone. As a result, the team is still in 14th place, but level on points with Gladbach in twelfth.
Coach Thomas Letsch’s team will naturally be looking to pick up some points against Dortmund. They will then continue against Augsburg and Frankfurt. However, Bochum’s record in their last three away games is not great, having lost two and drawn once
Secret test positive
The day after their success against Stuttgart, Bochum played a friendly match against 1. FC Köln in private. The test, in which mainly the reserves from the previous day were used, was also positive for Bochum and they won 2:0. The goalscorers of the match were Philipp Hofmann and Lukas Daschner, who decided the game with a direct free-kick goal.
It was Daschner’s second goal against Cologne, as he had already scored in the regular league match in November. For coach Letsch, the game was an opportunity to see who might be considered for a start against Dortmund. Daschner has certainly recommended himself

Predicted lineup – last update on January 27, 2024
The Dortmund team will play in a 4-3-3 formation. We don’t expect any major changes from coach Terzić after the high-scoring spectacle against Cologne. After missing two games, Mats Hummels should be back in defense. If he is still not good enough, Niklas Süle will take over his position again. Emre Can is also back after a break and would also be an option for the first eleven. Salih Özcan would then make way for him.
Bochum will also play in a 4-3-3 system. In defense, we expect Cristian Gamboa, who has been suspended, to return to the back four. The Brazilian Bernardo, on the other hand, will have to serve his yellow card suspension this week. Maximilian Wittek will play in his place. We also expect Kevin Stöger back in the starting line-up in central midfield
