Borussia Dortmund vs. Arminia Bielefeld
It’s getting into the hot phase of the Bundesliga. Before the 26th matchday, it seems to boil down to a duel for the championship between Borussia Dortmund and FC Bayern Munich, as so often in recent years. At present, Bayern Munich still enjoy a 9-point lead over BVB, but the Borussians still have the catch-up game against Mainz up their sleeve. In addition, the two heavyweights of German football will meet once again in a direct duel in the second half of the season.
While Bayern have to face the strong Hoffenheimers at the weekend, BVB have a compulsory task ahead of them with the relegation-threatened Arminia from Bielefeld. Kick-off at Signal Iduna Park is at 17:30 on Sunday. Find out what our predictions are for this match in our Dortmund vs Bielefeld betting tips.

Dortmund Form & Balance Check
BVB won “only” two of their last four Bundesliga matches – actually too few for the championship. However, since Bayern also dropped points during this period with a defeat in Bochum (2:4) and a draw against Leverkusen (1:1), BVB’s gap has not grown any further. It currently stands at nine points. With the make-up game in Mainz in hand, Dortmund could move to within six points of the record champions. The Black and Yellows’ last few games, however, give them only limited hope of catching up. In the Europa League, they were eliminated by Glasgow Rangers (2:4 & 2:2). In the Bundesliga, they did not manage more than a 1-1 draw with fourteenth-placed Augsburg on the last matchday.
Haaland and Reus unlikely to feature – bottleneck in defence
Erling Haaland has already rejoined team training during the week. However, Sunday’s match against Bielefeld will probably come too soon. At least for the starting eleven, the Norwegian forward is unlikely to be an option. Team captain Marco Reus is also in danger of dropping out. The offensive player has probably been infected with the Corona virus. The Dortmund team is also threatened with a real bottleneck on the defensive side. In addition to the two full-backs Raphael Guerreiro (Corona virus) and Thomas Meunier (torn tendon), Mats Hummels (Corona virus), Manuel Akanji and Dan-Axel Zagadou (both with muscle injuries) are missing from the centre of defence.
Dortmund facts & analysis
– Won 2 of last 4 league games.
– 18 Bundesliga games scored in a row
– 9 points behind Bayern
Bielefeld form & balance check
Around the turn of the year, Bielefeld had their strongest phase this season. Arminia remained unbeaten for six games in a row between mid-December and early February. Since then, however, the Arminen have lost three of their last four games. While the defeats at Hoffenheim (0:2) and Leverkusen (0:3) are still justifiable, a 0:1 at home against a direct competitor in the relegation battle breaks your neck. That’s what happened to Arminia last Friday against FC Augsburg.
Surprise against Dortmund?
Due to the already mentioned absences on BVB’s side, a surprise is in the air. An away win for Arminia in Dortmund would have almost historic proportions. The last time they achieved this was in the 1999/2000 Bundesliga season. In the last few games at Signal Iduna Park, however, there was little to be gained. Three defeats in a row with a goal difference of 1:15 speak for themselves.
Bielefeld facts & analysis
– Lost 3 of last 4 league games.
– only 1 goal in last 4 league matches
– 2 points clear of relegation place
Predicted line-up – last update on 11 March 2022
We have already gone into Dortmund’s breakdowns in our “Form & Balance Check”. The line-up in the back four is therefore likely to be: Wolf-Can-Pongracic-Schulz. Malen and Hazard are expected to start in place of Haaland and Reus.
Arminia from Bielefeld also have to lament absences due to the Corona virus. With Joakim Nilsson and Goncalo Castro, both a man for the defensive centre and one for the central midfield are out. Otherwise, coach Frank Kramer will be able to draw on a full complement of players against Dortmund.
