Dortmund played in the Champions League semi-finals during the week and put in an extremely strong performance against PSG. While they have been up and down in the league, they showed in the top flight that they can keep up with the big names in Europe. In addition, the win against Paris secured the Bundesliga another Champions League spot for next season, which even benefits BVB itself.
Augsburg have stumbled a little in recent weeks and recently suffered a clear 3-0 defeat against Werder Bremen in their own stadium. They are fighting for the last starting place for European business and must score in Dortmund. Recently, however, the form curve has been pointing downwards

Dortmund Form & Balance Check
Dortmund should go into this clash with plenty of confidence. They won the nerve-wracking clash against Paris on Wednesday 1-0, with both teams missing a number of top chances. BVB have not won in the league for two matchdays and are in fifth place with 57 points.
As the win in the top flight gives BVB another starting place for the upcoming Champions League season, it is already certain that Europe’s top teams will be lining up in front of the yellow wall again next year. The lead to sixth place is twelve points and can no longer be closed by Frankfurt
Füllkrug again
Niclas Füllkrug scored the decisive goal in the win against Paris after a great pass from Nico Schlotterbeck. He also put his team on the road to victory against Atlético Madrid in the quarter-finals with his goal and played his part in reaching the semi-finals.
Two weeks ago, Dortmund’s only current international also scored against Leverkusen and now has three goals from his last four games. He is therefore in good form as the season draws to a close and will be looking to score again against Augsburg. He has scored a total of twelve goals in the Bundesliga, but has also set up eight goals
Dortmund facts & analysis

- Last game won
- Without a win in two league games
Augsburg Form & Balance Check
Augsburg’s defeat against Bremen last weekend was FCA’s second defeat in a row. Coach Jess Thorup’s team have collected just four points from their last five games and have lost pole position in the Conference League to SC Freiburg.
The team is in eighth place in the table and, with 39 points, is one point behind Freiburg and thus in the final qualification spot for Europe. Lurking behind Augsburg are Hoffenheim, Heidenheim and Bremen, who are all still in with a chance of qualifying for international play. Another defeat could therefore have fatal consequences
Morale at rock bottom
The defeat against Bremen is particularly bitter because, with rivals Freiburg and Hoffenheim also losing on the final matchday, FCA missed the chance to improve their starting position for the remaining three games. In the last two games, however, they have lacked wit and creativity, and Augsburg seem to be gambling away their chances of qualifying for Europe in recent weeks.
Coach Thorup seems at a loss and even spoke after the Bremen game of the biggest disappointment he has ever experienced at the FCA. The mood seems to be at rock bottom, but a reaction is needed, because Augsburg’s remaining program with Dortmund, Stuttgart and Leverkusen is probably by far the toughest compared to that of the competition
Augsburg facts & analysis
- Eighth place in the table
- Lost last two games
- Only one win from the last five games
We expect Dortmund to play in a 4-1-2-3 formation. Against Augsburg, coach Edin Terzić could give some players a rest after the exhausting game against Paris. With Marius Wolf, Niklas Süle, Salih Özcan, Felix Nmecha, Jamie Bynoe-Gittens, Marco Reus, Youssoufa Moukoko and Donyell Malen, eight new players will come into the starting eleven. Sébastian Haller could hope to get another minute as a substitute.
We expect Augsburg to field a similar line-up to the one used against Bremen. They will play in a 4-3-3 system. Niklas Dorsch could replace Kristijan Jakić in the starting six. The attack around Ruben Vargas, Phillip Tietz and Ermedin Demirović remains unchanged. Sven Michel and Pep Biel are options from the bench
