SV Darmstadt 98 – FSV Mainz
The 11th matchday of the Bundesliga once again offers some exciting games. Darmstadt and Mainz, two direct rivals for relegation, meet in the basement of the table. The Lilies have suffered a number of sporting setbacks in recent weeks and are therefore under pressure to finally score again. What’s more, the team will be without their head coach Torsten Lieberknecht this weekend. He cannot be there for family reasons.
Following the departure of Bo Svensson, interim coach Jan Siewert remains on the sidelines for Mainz. After the surprising win in the last game against Leipzig, however, the mood is positive again. Mainz desperately need points and can overtake Darmstadt with a win. Find out who will secure victory in this match in our Darmstadt – Mainz betting tip

Darmstadt Form & Balance Check
The promoted team is in 15th place in the league after the tenth matchday, just one point ahead of the direct relegation places. After three defeats in a row, the Lilies are in a slight crisis and in the middle of the relegation battle. Prior to this series, however, coach Lieberknecht’s team had managed two wins, meaning they have a record of three defeats and two wins from their last five games.
Last weekend’s 2-1 defeat against direct rivals Bochum will be particularly painful. In addition to the loss of points, captain Fabian Holland received his fourth red card for the Lilies this season and will therefore be suspended
Shooting gallery of the league
Darmstadt concede the most goals in the league and currently have the worst goal difference. Even though Bayern alone conceded eight goals to the Lilies, the defense in particular is not awake at home games. With 14 goals conceded at home, the Lilies are also bottom of the table in this category. The suspension of defensive player Holland hurts twice as much
Darmstadt facts & analysis
- Lost 2-1 to Bochum in the previous week
- In 15th place in the league
- Conceded the most goals in the league
Mainz Form & Balance Check
Mainz are bottom of the table with just six points after ten matchdays. Mainz have lost five of their last eight competitive matches and have drawn twice. The current 17th place is disappointing and so coach Svensson decided to resign after the ninth matchday. The 2-0 win against Leipzig in the last game was balm for Mainz’s soul and interim coach Siewert was able to make a good case for the role as head coach
Onisiwo shines as a preparer
Karim Onisiwo, who was so strong in form last season, has yet to score a goal for Mainz this season. However, the current new coach is sticking with him and the Austrian is still a regular in Siewert’s starting eleven.
Onisiwo repaid this trust with his two assists in the match against Leipzig, in which he set up both Jae-Sung Lee’s opening goal to make it 1-0 and Leandro Barreiro’s goal to make it 2-0. Now Mainz are hoping that their striker will find his way back to his old goalscoring form against Darmstadt. If he does, the chances of a Mainz away win are good
Mainz facts & analysis
- A 2-0 win against Leipzig last weekend
- 17th in the league
- Only one win this season
Predicted line-up – last update on November 9, 2023
Darmstadt must compensate for the absence of captain Holland. Fabian Schnellhart should move into the starting eleven and the Lilies will switch to a 3-3-3-2 system, which will become a five-man back line.
Mainz will line up in a 3-4-2-1 formation with Onisiwo up front. Stefan Ball’s Achilles tendon complaint further thins out the personnel situation at center-back
