Crystal Palace vs. Chelsea FC
Crystal Palace and Chelsea FC have been out of action for almost a month in the Premier League due to the international break, a suspended matchday and a postponement of each game, but report back next weekend with one of the many London derbies. The two clubs meet at Selhurst Park on Saturday from 16:00 on the occasion of Matchday 9.
It could possibly be the next awkward away game for the Blues. Chelsea have already lost their last two away games at Leeds United and Southampton, and with Palace’s only defeats so far this season coming at the hands of top teams Arsenal and Manchester City, it seems likely that the Eagles will pick up another point.
In that case, it would be the first time in almost five years that Palace have not lost to Chelsea. Whether we are convinced of this and what we think about this London derby is revealed in our Crystal Palace vs Chelsea tip.

Crystal Palace Form & Balance Check
The Eagles are in all likelihood facing another mid-table season. Crystal Palace have finished between tenth and 15th for nine consecutive years since the 2013/14 season. Results from the start of the season suggest that the capital club will once again finish in this region. Patrick Vieira’s side have only won against Aston Villa (3-1) in their opening six games, but have also only been beaten by Arsenal FC (0-2) and Manchester City (2-4).
Fearful opponents Chelsea
The duels with Liverpool FC, Newcastle United and Brentford FC all ended in draws. With these results, they are not attacking the top third of the table, but they are keeping the relegation places at bay point for point. However, against the fearful opponents Chelsea, it does not look good statistically to win a point. The Eagles have lost each of their last nine Premier League encounters with the Blues and last claimed a point in October 2017.
Crystal Palace facts & analysis
– 6 points from 6 games.
– Last played 0-0 against Newcastle
– Lost last 9 duels with Chelsea
Chelsea form & balance check
Despite an overall successful partnership, which was even crowned with a Champions League win in the 2020/21 season, Chelsea FC officials decided early on to sack coach Thomas Tuchel with immediate effect after a somewhat bumpy start to the season. It was not only Tuchel himself who was very surprised and, above all, disappointed by this decision. It was clear from the German coach’s subsequent statement that he would have liked to continue working with his team.
But that’s business, especially when the club is owned by an American entrepreneur who makes decisions on his own discretion and without any expertise. Tuchel’s successor, Graham Potter, has only been on the sidelines in one competitive match. The Blues drew 1-1 with RB Salzburg on his debut in the Champions League.
Last two defeats away from home
In the league, he is expected to lead the team back into the top-4 after a somewhat poor start to the season. To do this, he should work with the Blues primarily on the away weakness. The home games against Tottenham (2:2), Leicester (2:1) and West Ham (2:1) were successful, while the only reason to cheer away from home was Everton FC (0:1). Raheem Sterling & Co. have both lost their most recent two guest games at Leeds United (3-0) and Southampton (2-1).
Chelsea facts & analysis
– 10 points from 6 games.
– Last win 2:1 against West Ham
– Graham Potter set to make Premier League debut
Predicted line-up – last update on 29 September 2022
Crystal Palace currently have no injury worries, so coach Patrick Vieira can draw from a full complement. However, after the recent 3-0 win over bottom side Norwich, he should have little reason to make changes
It’s hard to predict Chelsea’s starting eleven for their first league game under their new coach. We are therefore basing our predictions on his CL debut against RB Salzburg. The Blues do not have any injury worries at the moment.
