1. FC Köln has played a good season so far, and is even without a defeat in the new year. Most recently, the FC played to a draw three times in a row. Last Saturday, Cologne held the top team from Leipzig to a 0-0 draw. Before the match against Eintracht, the Geißböcke are in eleventh place in the Bundesliga.
But Frankfurt’s Eintracht is also still without a defeat this year. While the SGE recently earned two draws away from home, coach Oliver Glasner’s team won their home match against Hertha 3-0 last weekend. During the week, Frankfurt also reached the quarter-finals of the DFB Cup by beating Darmstadt 4-2. 1. FC Köln had a successful last season, finishing in seventh place, which secured them a place in the UEFA Conference League. Unfortunately, the double burden was too much for FC in the end. Not only were they eliminated from the Conference League, but their performances in the league also declined. After a strong start to the season, coach Steffen Baumgart’s team lost steam as the Hinrunde progressed. FC only picked up one point from the last five Bundesliga games before the winter break.
In the new year, however, things are going much better for FC. The Cologne team won the opening game of the new year with an outstanding 7:1 against Werder Bremen. The last three FC games ended in a draw. The clash with RB Leipzig last weekend was a tired 0-0 draw, and the Geißböcke are currently in eleventh place in the table.
Recent storm lull
Cologne conceded seven goals to Werder Bremen to kick off the 2023 Bundesliga season. If we exclude this game, however, the FC attack looks pretty poor. Not counting the Bremen game, the Cathedral City team has scored just three goals in the last eight games. The last two games against bottom-placed Schalke and RB Leipzig showed glaring weaknesses in Cologne’s offensive.
1. FC Köln had to deal with the loss of Anthony Modeste, who left shortly after the start of the season. So far, Florian Kainz and Steffen Tigges are the team’s top scorers, with five goals each. New winter signing Davie Selke, on the other hand, has not yet been able to make his mark on the team and is still without a goal for FC.

Eintracht Frankfurt are playing at the top of the league again this season. This is particularly astonishing as the SGE even has to cope with the double burden of the Champions League. For Frankfurt is also still represented in the top flight and will meet Napoli in the round of 16 the week after next.
The team led by coach Oliver Glasner is currently in excellent form in the league. The Adler occupy fifth place in the Bundesliga and are only five points behind league leaders Bayern Munich. Against these same Bavarians, the SGE even managed a 1-1 draw a fortnight ago. Last Saturday, the Adler defeated Hertha BSC at home by a clear 3:0 score.

On Wednesday, Eintracht won the Hessen derby against Darmstadt 4-2 in the round of 16 of the DFB Cup. The central figure on this evening was once again Randal Kolo Muani. The Frenchman prepared one goal and scored two more himself.
The striker has been in incredible form at least since his appearances at the World Cup. In the new year, Kolo Muani also scored four times in four games in the league and set up another goal. With nine goals and twelve assists, he currently leads both statistics for the SGE. Eintracht will find it difficult to tie the 24-year-old down beyond the summer.

Coach Steffen Baumgart will again go with a 4-2-3-1. Tigges will once again be the only top player for the Cathedral City side. With Kilian, Pedersen, Limnios, Andersson, Dietz and Uth, Cologne are still missing six players through injury.
We expect coach Oliver Glasner’s team to play in a 3-4-2-1 again, with Kolo Muani, Lindstrøm and Götze leading the attack once more. Newcomer Philipp Max always played from the start recently and did a very solid job. Junior Dina Ebimbe and Marcel Wenig will be out injured.
