1. FC Köln vs. Bayern München
The 19th matchday is coming up in the Bundesliga this weekend. The second set of games in the new year once again has some exciting matches in store, such as the opening game between Borussia Dortmund and SC Freiburg (go here for Dortmund – Freiburg tip). But there is also a particularly interesting duel on Saturday, when 1. FC Köln receives FC Bayern. Kick-off is at 3:30 p.m. at the Rhein-Energie-Stadion, you can find our prediction in the following Cologne vs Bayern tip.
Cologne are currently on a high and recently even moved up to sixth place. With 28 points from 18 games, the Geißböcke are far removed from the relegation battle of the previous season and are currently even playing for the international places. Bayern, on the other hand, are still on course for the championship despite their slip-up in the first leg against Gladbach. The league leaders now have 43 points on their account, with Dortmund the closest rival six points away.

Cologne Form & Balance Check
The 1. FC Köln continues its flight of fancy from the first half of the season. The Geißböcke look like a changed team under Baumgart and convince with attractive football and the corresponding results. After three Bundesliga victories in a row, the FC are currently in a Europa League spot. The club doesn’t want to know anything about that at this point of the season, but it is a nice snapshot as a reward for the performances of the last six months.
Sovereign victory in Berlin
Now we go into the duel against the great FC Bayern with the self-confidence of the recent winning streak. After three wins in Wolfsburg and against Stuttgart before the turn of the year, the Geißböcke did not let up in the second half of the season. In Berlin, Modeste and Duda scored twice after just over half an hour to give Hertha a comfortable lead at the break. Darida brought Hertha back within a goal, but Thielmann made everything clear in stoppage time against a retreating Berlin team and scored the final goal to make it 1:3.
Cologne facts & analysis
– 6th place in the Bundesliga
– Last win 3:1 against Hertha
– 3 wins in a row
Bayern form & balance check
Bayern had certainly imagined a different start to the new year. After a successful first half of the season, the Bavarians had extended their lead over Dortmund to nine points and went into the winter break feeling particularly reassured. But with the start of training after the turn of the year came the shock. The record-breaking champions had a total of nine Corona cases in their team, as well as a number of injured players and players called up for the Africa Cup.
Gladbach again a stumbling block
So Bayern went into the second-round opener against Gladbach hugely short of substitutes, but were still able to field an absolutely top-quality starting line-up. The Munich team also had a score to settle with Borussia after the sensational 0:5 in the cup. In general, Gladbach are the closest thing Bayern has to a fearful opponent. Last Friday’s match confirmed this, as the Fohlenelf took home a 2-1 victory from Munich. After Lewandowski had given the serial champions the lead, Neuhaus and Lainer turned the game in Borussia’s favour.
Bayern facts & analysis
– Top of the Bundesliga
– Last lost 1:2 against Gladbach
– Previously won 7 competitive games in a row
Predicted line-up – last update on 13 January 2022
For Cologne, it is conceivable that Schaub will have to make way for Ljubicic, who is stronger defensively and in terms of running, compared to the last game. The rest of the team is currently set. Otherwise, only Skhiri, who is at the Africa Cup, will be absent, and there are also a few injured players. For Bayern, a lot depends on how the affected players have survived their Corona infections. Most of them have already been allowed to leave the isolation. Goretzka, Coman and Stanisic are missing injured, Choupo-Moting and Sarr are at the Africa Cup.
