Man City Form & Record Check
After 32 unbeaten games, Man City lost a league game for the first time again. Under Pep Guardiola, City only lost two league games in a row in October 2023, December 2018 and December 2016. This season, they conceded the 0-1 in five of their first ten PL games – this last happened to them in 2006/2007. A total of 73% of the Skyblues’ goals against were conceded in the first half – for eight out of 11 goals, this is the highest percentage of all teams.
Foden’s favorite opponent is Brighton
Man City’s Phil Foden has scored more Premier League goals against Brighton than against any other league rival: He has scored eight times in seven appearances against the Seagulls. This season, however, Foden has not yet scored in his seven appearances. His last long dry spell in the league was between May 2019 and March 2020 – a run of 15 games. Perhaps he just needs the right opponent to get back on track.
Man City facts & analysis
- Last three defeats in three competitions
- Trailing in five of 10 PL appearances
- 73% of PL goals conceded in the first half
We expect Fabian Hürzeler’s Brighton to line up in a 4-4-2 again, as they did against Liverpool in the league. In attack, Welbeck could register a goal-involvement for the first time in five consecutive Premier League matches – something he has never done before. The Seagulls are without Solly March (knee injury), Matt O’Riley (ankle injury) and Yankuba Minteh (muscle injury).
Manchester City will line up again in the 4-1-4-1 formation that they have used so often of late, under the direction of Pep Guardiola. Kevin De Bruyne got his first minutes in the CL and is definitely a player who could help City out of their current minor crisis. Whether he starts remains questionable. Injured City players are Rodri, Bobb, Dias and Grealish.
