Bremen Form & record check
The Bremen team has played a consistently mature season. They have only suffered four defeats this season and are currently one of the formiest teams in the league. In their last five games, they conceded one of these defeats to Frankfurt, played a draw against Stuttgart and otherwise won three times against Kiel, Bochum and, most recently, St. Pauli. They are currently on a two-game winning streak.
They are determined to continue this against Union Berlin in order to continue to climb the table. They are currently in ninth place, but only two points behind the places that would be enough for the international stage. With a win against the team from the capital, SVW could move up to fifth place.
Home weakness
However, there is a possibility that they will stand in their own way again in this endeavor. While they are the second-best team in the league away from home, they have significant problems tapping into their full potential in front of their home crowd. So far, they have only managed a single win, three draws and two defeats.
This record, and a goal difference of 6:11, puts them in a very weak 14th place in the league-wide home table. At least the last home game against Berlin will give them some hope, where they were able to leave the pitch as winners with a 2:0 score.
Bremen facts & analysis
- Ninth place in the table
- Unbeaten in three games
- Last game won 2-0 against St. Pauli
Union Berlin form & record check
The Unioners started the season with very good results, but for a few weeks now they have been having significant problems in continuing these performances. In their last five games, they were beaten by Wolfsburg, Leverkusen and Stuttgart and only drew against Freiburg and, most recently, Bochum.
Last weekend, despite being a man up, they were unable to create any real chances or dangerous opportunities against Bochum. In the table, the Irons are still in twelfth place and, thanks to their good start, can expect a lot in the table, both up and down.
Focus on defense
The Unioners’ game is well known. They like to concentrate on defensive work and neglect their own offense. So far, they have only scored 13 goals themselves, but they have only conceded 15. This makes them the third-weakest offense, but also the second-best defense in the league. Recently, however, it has become apparent that pure defensive work is no longer enough and that the Berliners are making too few of their offensive actions to score goals. With just 0.07 goals per shot, they are the most inefficient team in the league along with Bochum and Kiel.
Union Berlin facts & analysis
- 12th place in the table
- Without a win in seven games
- Last game 1:1 against Bochum
In the last game, Bremen started in a 3-5-2 formation, which is also expected again this time. However, another possibility is the 3-4-2-1, which they have used quite often this season. The same eleven players who were successful against St. Pauli last time out can be expected. For the later course of the game, the in-form Burke or Alvero are an option.
The Berliners will probably start again in a 3-4-2-1. However, coach Bo Svensson will have to do without central defender Vogt (yellow card suspension). Querfeld will move up into the starting lineup in his place. Bénes is an option in the center and Vertessen could also start in offense.
