Werder Bremen – Bayer Leverkusen
The weather is slowly getting colder again, but that won’t stop Bundesliga fans from flocking to the stadiums again on the remaining five matchdays this year. More than 40,000 spectators are expected to cheer on their team at Bremen’s Weser Stadium on Saturday. SVW will then welcome the current league leaders from Leverkusen. Find out in our Bremen – Leverkusen betting tip whether the North Germans will come away with something worthwhile from this clash.
Bremen will be desperate to continue their unbeaten run in this match. SVW have picked up a total of five points from their last three games, keeping the teams from the bottom of the table at bay. Ahead of the clash with Bayer 04, coach Werner’s team find themselves in twelfth place.
The visitors from Leverkusen, on the other hand, are in much better form. The Werkself continue to lead the table and dropped the only two points in the 2-2 draw in Munich. Before the international break, Bayer also recorded a commanding 4-0 win over bottom-of-the-table Union Berlin

Bremen Form & Balance Check
The last time Werder Bremen played in the Champions League was in the 2010/2011 season, when they were eliminated in the group stage. In the meantime, however, the reality at the Weser Stadium is not European soccer, but a relegation battle. And the Bremen fans will certainly be satisfied this season if SVW avoids relegation to Bundesliga 2 in the end.
And Werder are definitely on course for that at the moment. In the last three games in particular, coach Ole Werner’s team have pulled themselves out of the bottom of the table. With five points from these three matches, SVW jumped to 12th place
Keïta fit again?
When Naby Keïta first played in the German top flight from 2016 to 2018, the midfielder was one of the most exciting players in the entire league. The €60 million move to Liverpool FC in the Premier League was therefore only logical. At the Reds, however, the man from Guinea was plagued by injury worries.
At SVW, the now 28-year-old wanted to get his career back on track. But even in the far north, the new signing was not spared injuries. Due to two lengthy muscle injuries, Keïta has only played 80 minutes in the league so far. The Bremen hopeful is now expected to be back in the squad against Leverkusen
Bremen facts & analysis
- Three home wins already this season
- In twelfth place in the league
- Played 2:2 against Frankfurt before the international break
Leverkusen Form & Balance Check
The Werkself continue their triumphal march seemingly unstoppable. Leverkusen are leading Europa League Group H and have not conceded a single point in their first four games. The Werkself are also top of the Bundesliga table. However, the initial fireworks on the pitch have been somewhat rarer of late.
Leverkusen won three league games by the narrow margin of just one goal. Before the international break, however, Leverkusen recorded a commanding 4:0 win against Union Berlin. With 31 points after eleven games, Bayer 04 remains top of the table and has even recorded the second-best Bundesliga start in history, level on points with Bayern under Guardiola in the 15/16 season
Grimaldo outstanding
In the past season, coach Xabi Alonso quickly switched to a 3-4-2-1 system. The results improved significantly, with Jeremie Frimpong in particular on the right benefiting from the slightly more attacking position. However, Bayer 04 repeatedly struggled on the left flank. As a result, a new player for the left flank was at the top of Leverkusen’s shopping list in the summer.
The club landed a real coup with Xabi Alonso’s compatriot Alejandro Grimaldo. The 28-year-old has already contributed six goals and five assists in the league and also shone as a goalscorer against Union Berlin. During the international break, Grimaldo also finally made his debut for the Spanish national team against Cyprus
Leverkusen facts & analysis
- Leading the Bundesliga table
- Won 4-0 against Union before the international break
- Second-best offense in the league
Predicted line-up – last update on November 23, 2023
Bremer will once again go into Saturday’s game with a back three. Although Michael Zetterer played well in goal, Jiri Pavlenka will probably play in goal for Werder again this weekend. Naby Keïta will probably be back in the SVW squad after his injury.
For Leverkusen, we’re again assuming the usual 3-4-2-1. Jeremie Frimpong was injured recently and could be replaced by Nathan Tella in the starting eleven. In addition, Exequiel Palacios returned late from the national team and could be rested for the start of the match
