Werder Bremen – RB Leipzig
Due to the English week, the Bundesliga teams are once again going head-to-head these days. With two games in the space of a few days, the players will once again be put to the test before the well-earned Christmas break. SV Werder Bremen and RB Leipzig open this 16th matchday early on Tuesday evening. You can find out which of the two teams will emerge victorious from this match and who will go home empty-handed in our Bremen – Leipzig betting tip.
Bremen earned a point at Borussia Mönchengladbach last Friday with a solid performance. Nevertheless, they have slipped slightly down the table and are dangerously close to the relegation places. A home win before the winter break would be extremely important to be able to relax a little over the holidays.
Leipzig are currently in strong form and were again successful on the last matchday. The 3:1 win against TSG Hoffenheim even saw the Bulls overtake VfB Stuttgart, who had no chance against Bayern on Sunday evening. They are now among the top chasers at the top of the table and will be looking to ride the current wave of euphoria to score again in Bremen.

Bremen Form & Balance Check
After an attractive and exciting match at Borussia Mönchengladbach on Friday evening, the final score was a 2-2 draw. A fair draw in terms of the course of the game, but Bremen could have done with a win to close the gap on the relegation places a little. Coach Ole Werner’s team have only won one of their last six games and are on 15 points.
They are only six points clear of the direct relegation places and Bremen must be careful not to slip even deeper into the basement before Christmas. The game against Leipzig will be a difficult task for Werder and a lot will have to come together for Werder to take home something worthwhile here
Ducksch on the spot
The fact that Werder were able to pick up a point in Gladbach was ultimately down to Marvin Ducksch. The attacker is in extremely good form at the moment and had the presence of mind to make it 2:2 against Gladbach in the 76th minute.
It was his fifth goal in the last seven games. It is impossible to imagine Werder’s offense without Ducksch, as the 29-year-old kicks almost all of Bremen’s set-pieces and thus creates danger. In addition to his seven goals this season, he has also prepared four goals
Bremen facts & analysis
- Last one win and one draw
- 15th place in the table
- Goal ratio of 22:29
Leipzig Form & Balance Check
Leipzig’s 3-1 win against Hoffenheim on the last matchday was their fourth victory in a row. That shows the confidence that coach Rose’s team currently has. In the Bundesliga, they were able to extend their lead in the battle for the Champions League qualification places, as BVB once again failed to score in their away game in Augsburg.
Leipzig are now in third place, six points ahead of Dortmund in fifth. The Bulls also put in an extremely mature performance in the top flight and have deservedly reached the last 16. The Saxons naturally want to continue their winning streak and take a three-pointer to Bremen as well
Emotional farewell
On Saturday evening, Emil Forsberg played his last game for Leipzig after nine years at RB. The farewell could not have been more perfect, as Forsberg not only scored after coming on as a substitute, but also set up a goal.
After 324 competitive matches and 71 goals for Leipzig, the 32-year-old is now moving to his sister club in New York in the MLS. The absolute identification figure and two-time DFB Cup winner bid an emotional farewell to the Leipzig fans after the game. In New York, the striker will receive a contract until the end of 2026 with an option for a further year
Leipzig facts & analysis
- Three wins in a row in the Budnesliga
- 3rd place in the table
- qualified for the round of 16 of the CL
Predicted line-up – last update on December 19, 2023
We expect Bremen to field a similar line-up to the one used against Gladbach on the previous matchday. The two goalscorers Ducksch and Rafel Borré will be up front in a 3-5-2 system. Werder are still missing the injured Amos Pieper, Marco Friedl and Nicolai Rapp.
We don’t expect any changes to Leipzig’s starting line-up either. The midfield axis of Amadou Haidara, Xavier Schlager and Christoph Baumgartner is currently working well together. We expect top scorer Loïs Openda to be the only real striker again, while Dane Yussuf Poulsen often drops back in the system and picks up the balls in midfield
