On Sunday, the Bundesliga is once again in full swing. Three games are scheduled on this matchday on the last day of the week. However, Mitchell Weiser recently confirmed that he would like to play for Algeria in the future, the country of his grandfather’s birth. Freiburg form & balance check
Under the guidance of coach Christian Streich, SC Freiburg have once again turned out to be a real surprise team this season. The team from the Black Forest is currently in fifth place in the table and has also caused a stir internationally in the Europa League. After a flawless group phase, however, Juventus Torino proved to be out of their league in the round of 16.
Although the SCF has been a little weak in the Bundesliga lately, with only one win from the last six games, the team once again demonstrated its strength in the DFB Cup. With a sensational 2:1 victory over FC Bayern Munich, Freiburg entered the semi-finals of the cup. Last weekend, however, the Breisgauers went straight back up against FC Bayern in the league, where the Munich side eventually prevailed 1-0.
Petersen finishes off
Nils Petersen is currently on a farewell tour in the Bundesliga. The 34-year-old will end his active career after this season. On Sunday, Freiburg’s number 18 will play against his former club from the Weser for the last time. Petersen played for Werder in the north of the republic between 2012 and 2015.
The striker, who was born in Wernigerode, has been scoring goals for SCF since 2015. This season, however, the attacker is only a supplementary player for Breisgau and has not yet scored in the Bundesliga. Petersen became known as an effective substitute. With 33 joker goals in the Bundesliga, he still holds the record today.

The North Germans will again operate in a 3-5-2. In the forward line, Füllkrug and Ducksch will once again twirl together on Sunday. Even though the top scorer was injured during the week, he will be available again for the match against Freiburg. The same applies to Jiri Pavlenka in goal. In addition, Pieper will return in central defence after suffering a blister.
