Bremen Form & Balance Check
Bremen will be quite happy with their first game of the season. Away against Augsburg, the game entered a very fast-paced phase in the tenth minute, with both teams creating and taking their chances. Bremen scored first, but conceded the equalizer less than five minutes later. The hosts then managed to take the lead shortly before the break.
However, Bremen never gave up after the break. They had more possession, but initially failed to convert this into compelling chances, but this changed in the 58th minute when Njinmah jumped higher than everyone and headed the ball in to make it 2:2. After that, nothing more happened in terms of goals and so it remained a deserved draw and the first point of the season for Werder. They are currently eighth in the table
Home record against Dortmund
It’s been quite a while since Bremen beat BVB at home in the Bundesliga. Although there have been occasional successes away from home, Bremen have found it extremely difficult to beat BVB at home in recent years. They have lost six of their last eight home games and have at least drawn twice. The last home win against the Black & Yellows was in 2014, almost ten years ago.
Bremen facts & analysis
- Eighth place in the table
- Last game 2:2
- Not won at home against BVB since 2014
Dortmund Form & Balance Check
Dortmund have also made a good start to the season. However, the first matchday was also something of a must-win for them. At Signal Iduna Park, Borussia Dortmund had to face Frankfurt, who were known for playing very fast-paced soccer. The match began on an even keel and BVB found it extremely difficult to become really dangerous.
There were a few isolated chances up until the break, but they were hardly worth mentioning, which is why the game went into the break goalless. Frankfurt came out confidently afterwards and had the chance to take the lead through Chaibi, but he failed to hit the empty net from point-blank range. And Gittens punished this unused chance directly on the counter-attack, flicking the ball into the top right-hand corner of the goal after a great solo run.
Frankfurt then threw everything forward to try and equalize, but once again it was Gittens who received the ball in his own half and, after a 60-metre sprint, had the strength to slot the ball past Trapp to make the final score 2:0.
Away strength
Last season, Borussia were almost always able to rely on their away strength. In 17 games on foreign turf, they won eight times, drew six times and only lost three times. That is the best record in the league after Leverkusen, who did not lose a single match. These results put them in third place in the away table last season, ahead of Bayern Munich and RB Leipzig. The upcoming clash will tell us a lot about whether Dortmund have maintained this strength
Dortmund facts & analysis
- Place two in the table
- Last game won 2:0
- Lost only three times away from home last season
Bremen will probably start in a 3-5-2 again next matchday, a formation that moves into a back five against the ball. In comparison to last week, Ole Werner will probably rely on goalkeeper Njinmah, but Topp will have to sit on the bench for the time being. Bittencourt and Alvero are both options for the center, otherwise everything remains the same in terms of personnel.
BVB will stick to their system of play from the last game and will start in a 3-4-2-1. It is certain that Gittens will be preferred to Adeyemi and Couto could also be used in the right-back position for the first time. Bensebaini, who has also impressed after coming on as a substitute, is an option on the left flank.
