Borussia Mönchengladbach – RB Leipzig
Without much preamble, the Borussia Park is heading for a real cracker game this weekend: RB Leipzig, currently fifth with 42 points, is visiting seventh-placed Mönchengladbach, who have only two points less on the account. Both teams are stubbornly pursuing their goal of playing in Europe next year. The red card suspension of top scorer Tim Kleindienst is a cause for concern, as it could severely impact Gladbach’s offense in this crucial phase.

Borussia Mönchengladbach Form & Record Check
The Fohlenelf has recently presented itself as a real offensive spectacle: in the last five league games, there have always been at least three goals – in particular, the 4-2 win in Bremen underlined Gladbach’s goal-scoring prowess. Robin Hack has repeatedly shone, and with his four goals and six assists so far, he is making a strong case for a possible national team career. However, the defense often leaves something to be desired, as the 1-3 home defeat against Mainz or the 0-3 against Augsburg painfully illustrate. Gerardo Seoane urgently needs to stabilize this shaky course in order not to lose touch in the race for international places.
For the duel with Leipzig, Gladbach coach Gerardo Seoane is likely to choose the 4-2-3-1 again. In central defense, he will likely have to rely on Chiarodia and Itakura due to Elvedi’s absence. In addition, both Omlin and Nicolas are still injured, which is why Sippel is likely to be between the posts. In midfield, Julian Weigl could form a double six with Florian Neuhaus, while Robin Hack swirls on the wing. Since Tim Kleindienst is suspended and Sander and Fukuda are also ill, Tomas Cvancara or Pesch are likely to start in the center of attack. It remains to be seen whether Seoane will add any tactical tweaks at the last second.
RB Leipzig Form & Record Check
Things have been pretty inconsistent at RB Leipzig for a few weeks now. Although they were able to celebrate a strong 2-0 win against Borussia Dortmund, they only managed a total of eight points from their last five games – not enough for the self-proclaimed Champions League contenders. They are particularly struggling in attack: often managing a maximum of one or two goals, although Xavi Simons and Loïs Openda have recently at least shown flashes of brilliance, at least against BVB. Both could finally break the deadlock with their dynamism. Nevertheless, the team is currently fifth, level on points with Freiburg, but with the feeling that they need to step it up a gear. Injured absentees include key players like Antonio Nusa and Assan Ouédraogo, which makes Marco Rose’s search for stability even more difficult.
The Red Bulls are likely to line up in a 3-4-2-1 formation. Henrichs (Achilles tendon), Schlager (torn muscle) and Baumgartner (concussion) are still out, so Geertruida, Orbán and Bitshiabu are expected in the back three. Baku and Raum are likely to operate on the wings, while Haidara and Seiwald should provide stability in the center. Xavi Simons, who recently returned from the Dutch national team full of confidence, should play a key role behind the strikers. Šeško and Openda will provide the goal threat up front. Antonio Nusa and Assan Ouédraogo are on the road to recovery, but a game against Gladbach comes too soon.
Borussia Mönchengladbach – RB Leipzig head to head & statistics
The head-to-head between these teams has often been characterized by tactical caution in recent years. In the last five meetings, Leipzig won three times, Gladbach only once, with a goalless 0-0 in November 2024. The Fohlenelf often struggled to score at all, while RB shone with disciplined defensive behavior. Given the recent offensive performances of both teams, however, spectators can certainly hope for a more lively game this time. One thing is certain: the constellation in the table makes this game particularly explosive.
