Bologna FC vs. Inter Milan
On the upcoming 20th matchday of Serie A, all nine fixtures will be played on the same day, kicking off with Bologna FC and Inter Milan at 12:30 on Thursday before the rest of the league follows suit at 14:30, 16:30, 18:30 and 20:45.
In recent years, this has always been a very one-sided duel. The last three meetings have all gone to Inter, and the Nerazzurris have been unbeaten at the home of FC Bologna since February 2002 (15 games). Whether we expect Inter to win again on Thursday and what other predictions we would make for this match is now revealed in our Bologna vs Inter tip.

Bologna -Inter Tip
The starting situations are very different. While Bologna finally managed to pick up three points last matchday after three defeats in a row, Inter have won all of their last seven encounters. Simone Inzaghi’s team is currently the most in-form team in the league and there is little reason to believe that Bologna, of all teams, can stop the Nerazzuri’s winning streak, especially as the direct comparison is also clearly in favour of the visitors.
Bologna Form & Balance Check
Bologna FC are exactly what you would call mediocre in Italian football this season. The hosts currently occupy tenth place out of 20 in the table, just as they do in the home table. In the away table, Bologna are in eleventh place. Moreover, the team of is eleventh in both the offensive and defensive rankings of the league. The Rossoblus may tend to move upwards, but it will probably still come down to a mid-table finish.
Mid-table finish next season
The last few weeks and months have further underlined this thesis. Of the last six games, Bologna have won three and lost three. Most recently, the three defeats against Florence (2:3), Torino (2:1) and Juventus Turin (0:2) were followed by a 0:3 away win at Sassuolo. In the five games before that, there were two wins and three defeats. The points were last shared on matchday 8 (1-1 at Udinese). The team definitely has quality, but not enough to sustain a place in the top third of the table. Therefore, FC Bologna will probably end up between 10th and 16th place again at the end of the season, as it has been the case in the past six seasons.
Bologna Facts & Analysis
– 27 points from 19 games
– Last win 0:3 at Sassuolo
– Drawn none of their last 11 matches
– Lost last 3 duels with Inter
Inter Form & Balance Check
The visitors from Milan are currently the measure of all things in Italian football. The last and so far only defeat in Serie A for the Nerazzuris came on matchday 8 at Lazio Roma (3:1). Since then, Edin Dzeko & Co. have won nine of eleven games (most recently seven in a row) and have only dropped points at home against Juventus (1-1) and away at AC Milan (1-1). The last six games were even won without conceding a goal, with a goal difference of 17:0. Nevertheless, city rivals AC Milan are only four points away at the moment, which is why the lead in the table can quickly disappear after two bad games.
Nerazzuri’s not a one-man army
The fact that Inter continue to perform so well after the departure of top striker Romelu Lukaku may be one of the reasons why the Belgian has been so emotional about his former employer recently. However, Inter have secured an excellent replacement in Edin Dzeko, who has already contributed eight goals and four assists so far this season. Recently, however, other players have taken centre stage. Right-back Dumfries has scored twice in a row recently, Calhanoglu has scored four goals in his last seven games and even Alexis Sanchez is getting back into his stride after scoring twice in his last three games. For now, Inter will have to do without the Bosnian attacker anyway, as he recently contracted the Corona virus.
Inter facts & Analysis
– 46 points from 19 games
– Last won 1-0 against Torino
– Last 7 games won
– Last 6 all to nil (17:0)
Predicted line-up – last update on 4 January 2022
Siniša Mihajlović is likely to rely on the eleven he fielded in the 3-0 defeat in Sassuolo. However, Aaron Hickey and Nicolas Dominguez tested positive for the Corona virus. Musa Barrow could play in place of Hickey. Instead of Dominguez, we expect Medel in midfield and Luis Binks in central defence.
The visitors could play almost unchanged compared to the 1-0 against Torino. Hakan Calhanoglu is missing due to a yellow suspension. Edin Dzeko, Martin Santriano and Alex Cordaz recently tested positive for the Corona virus. Alexis Sanchez or Joaqin Correa could play in place of Dzeko.
