Bayern Munich vs. SC Freiburg
Just a few days after their 5:2 victory over Benfica Lisbon, FC Bayern have their next home game in the Bundesliga. It will be played on Saturday afternoon at 15:30 at the Allianz Arena against SC Freiburg.
What is normally no more than a must-win for the record champions is this year a genuine top match between the Bundesliga leaders and the third-placed team. The Breisgau team is the only unbeaten team in German professional football and now wants to take home something worthwhile from Munich. Whether we think the visitors can do this and what other predictions we would make for this game is now revealed in our Bayern vs Freiburg tip.

Bayern -Freiburg Tip
Should SC Freiburg actually pull off the big surprise on Saturday and defeat FC Bayern in their own stadium, they would have exactly the same number of points on their account after the match as the 840 million record champions from Munich. Before the start of the season, nobody would have thought it possible that the Breisgau club would be on a par with Bayern after ten match days. But the small club from the south has been doing an excellent job for years and has also been gaining in quality in the recent past, which is why Freiburg’s flight of fancy has not come completely out of nowhere. Now the greatest possible yardstick awaits them in the form of FC Bayern.
Bayern Form & Balance Sheet Check
Whoever thought that Bayern were now heading for a small crisis after the 5-0 defeat against Borussia Mönchengladbach in the DFB Cup was quickly proved wrong. The Bavarians got their frustration off their chest early on last matchday at Union Berlin, who had previously been unbeaten in 21 home games. After 35 minutes, the record champions were leading 0:3 at the Stadion an der Alten Försterei. The Berliners’ intermittent comeback (goals to close the gap to 1:3 and 2:4) made the 2:5 defeat seem a little less dramatic.
Is the defence ready for the CL title?
Bayern won their home match against Benfica Lisbon in the Champions League last Wednesday with exactly the same result. The world seems to be back to normal in Munich, but if you are looking for a fly in the ointment, you will find one at the moment. In the last three games, Manuel Neuer has conceded nine goals, at least two in every game. As long as Lewandowski & Co. always score their three to five goals, none of this may be a problem. With regard to the knockout phase of the Champions League, however, the defence should be strengthened somewhat. After all, Bayern probably can’t afford to concede any easy goals against absolute top teams like Chelsea or Liverpool without suffering serious consequences in the end.
Bayern facts & analysis
– 25 points from 10 games
– Last win 2:5 at Union
– None of the 21 home games against Freiburg lost
– 38 goals after 10 games – new record
Freiburg form & balance check
The high flight of SC Freiburg just doesn’t come to an end. Last weekend, the Breisgau side beat promoted Greuther Fürth 3-1 to record their sixth win of the season in their tenth match. The other four matches all ended in a draw. This makes SC Freiburg the only team in all of German professional football that is still waiting for its first defeat. Now, however, Christian Streich’s team faces what looks on paper to be the toughest match of the entire season, an away game at FC Bayern.
Will SC remain unbeaten?
A win against the record champions would definitely have something historic. Sport-Club have won only one of their past 36 Bundesliga duels with FC Bayern – on matchday 33 of the 2014/15 season, when Bayern were already confirmed as champions under Pep Guardiola. However, the clubs have only played each other once before, when SC Freiburg were in the Bundesliga’s top 3. On 25 February 1995, they drew 2-2 away in Munich. Next Saturday, the Sport-Club would again settle for just a point to at least remain unbeaten. The Freiburg team is certainly capable of a draw.
Freiburg facts & analysis
– 22 points from 10 games
– Last win 3:1 against Fürth
– The only German professional team still unbeaten
– Won only 1 of last 36 duels with Bayern
Predicted line-up – last update on 4 November 2021
There should be no surprises in the starting eleven for the Munich team. The only open question is whether Niklas Süle, Lucas Hernandez or Benjamin Pavard will have to sit on the bench. Hernandez had to be substituted against Union and was not in the squad against Benfica, which is why we expect the Frenchman to be on the bench. On the wings, we expect Sané and Gnabry.
SC Freiburg will send their best eleven into the race. The only question is whether Manuel Gulde or Keven Schlotterbeck will play the third centre-back. We are counting on Gulde.
