The 3rd matchday in the European competitions is history and thus the 9th matchday in the Bundesliga is coming up. On Saturday, two very different teams will meet there. One of them was in action in the Champions League during the week, while the other has never competed internationally in its 120+ year history. In the top flight, the FCB managed the third victory in the third match against Galatasaray, even if not completely convincing. And also in the league, the Munich team is still unbeaten and is currently in third place. Darmstadt, on the other hand, is in a very solid twelfth place and, after previously winning two games in a row, only narrowly lost to RB Leipzig the previous week.
The signs are therefore clearly in favor of the record champion. And the recent past also speaks in favor of the FCB. In the past five competitive games against FC Bayern, Darmstadt has scored just one goal. This was scored by the national team’s current co-coach Sandro Wagner in February 2016, when his team conceded a 3-1 defeat in Munich.

Bayern form & balance check
The Munich team is slowly finding its dominant rhythm again. In the Champions League, the Bavarians thus once again took nine points from the first three games and are now without a loss of points for 16 games in the group stage of the premier league. The FCB’s last defeat in the first phase of the top flight was in 2017, when it was still under coach Carlo Ancelotti.
In the league, the record champion is no longer without a point loss, but the Munich team has not yet conceded a defeat either. With 20 points from the first eight games, the FCB is currently in third place. The previous week also saw the record champions win the Bundesliga for the first time since 2020 in Mainz.
Neuer is back
At the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, Manuel Neuer was in goal for the full duration of all three of the German team’s matches and didn’t always cut the best figure. During the subsequent skiing vacation, however, the goalkeeper suffered a serious injury and has been out of action ever since.
After a long battle back into goal, the 37-year-old will now be back in the box of the record champion against Darmstadt. This means that Sven Ulreich is now returning to the Bayern bench. The now 35-year-old represented the captain very solidly and secured the one or other point especially with his reflexes on the line.

Darmstadt form & balance check
Last season SV Darmstadt returned to the German top flight after a six-year absence. However, the first games after the return were extremely unfortunate for the Lilies. After five games, the Hessians found themselves in second-to-last place with just one point.
In recent weeks, however, coach Torsten Lieberknecht’s team has increasingly found its best form. On matchday six, Darmstadt secured their first victory with a 4-2 win over Werder Bremen. They confirmed this success with a 2-1 win at Augsburg. Last week, however, RB Leipzig was too efficient in a tight game, winning 3-1 at Böllenfalltor.
Kempe enormously important
In the summer of 2014, Tobias Kempe moved from Dynamo Dresden to Böllenfalltor. Since then, with the exception of a one-year excursion to Nuremberg, the midfielder has been an essential regular at Darmstadt 98.
This season, the 34-year-old also scored his first goals in the German top flight. With a total of three goals, Kempe is also the Lilien’s top scorer, along with Tim Skarke, with all three of the midfield powerhouse’s strikes coming from penalties. As a result, Darmstadt’s number 11 has already matched his goal tally from the previous season.

During the week, Bayern had a tough performance in the Champions League match against Galatasaray. Nevertheless, coach Tuchel can rotate little, as the record champion lacks fit players. As the only change in the starting eleven, we expect Thomas Müller again behind the front.
Darmstadt 98 will again start in a 3-4-1-2 in Munich. Although a total of six players conceded a yellow card against Leipzig, no one will be missing suspended against Bayern. Matthias Bader will also be available again against the record champions.
