FCA are in mid-table and have set themselves the primary goal of staying in the league. Things are looking good at the moment, but the Fuggerstädter still need to collect points to avoid slipping into the relegation battle.
Leipzig were finally able to celebrate their first win of 2024 last weekend and thus regain their place in the race for the Champions League places. RB naturally want to play in the top flight again next season, but face tough competition. So there is a lot at stake for both teams

Augsburg Form & Balance Check
Augsburg secured a fortunate 1-1 draw at VfL Bochum last weekend. They were trailing until stoppage time before Ermedin Demirović’s last-minute penalty secured a point for the Fuggerstädter. Prior to that, there had been two defeats and one win. FCA’s program to start the year was certainly not an easy one, as Leipzig are the third club from the top five to visit the WWK Arena this year.
Augsburg are currently twelfth in the table with 22 points. They are seven points clear of the relegation places. The league’s midfield is closely bunched, with eleventh and fifteenth place separated by just six points
Demirović on fire
FCA striker Demirović is currently in good form. He has scored a total of three times in the last two games, including a brace against Bayern. Demirović showed strong nerves from the spot by converting penalties against Munich and Bochum.
In total, the 25-year-old has scored eleven goals this season and provided an extremely strong six assists. What’s more, Demirović is one of the fastest players in the league and has already completed 555 sprints this season, the eighth most of any player
Augsburg facts & analysis
- Table position twelve
- One point from the last two games
- Last three home games without a win
Leipzig Form & Balance Check
The 2:0 win against Union Berlin last weekend felt like a kind of liberation for Leipzig. The losing streak of three games beforehand was ended and the striking distance to the Champions League places is still there. For coach Rose, it was particularly important that RB finally managed to keep a clean sheet against Union.
The Bulls are now sniffing at fourth place again, as RB are in fifth place with 36 points, just one point behind BVB. Leipzig could therefore overtake Dortmund again with a win. The lead over the runners-up from Frankfurt is five points.
Return of the veterans
The fact that Leipzig did not concede a goal for the first time since October was also due to the return of two veterans. Rose made a goalkeeper change against Union and gave Péter Gulácsi another chance between the posts. He exuded calm and experience as ever.
Added to this was the starting eleven comeback of captain and defensive boss Willi Orban. The 31-year-old slotted into the team without any problems after a five-month injury lay-off and ensured that Leipzig’s defending was organized. Both returnees could become extremely important at this stage of the season
Leipzig facts & analysis
- Fifth place in the table
- Last game won 2:0
- Only four points from the last five games
We expect Augsburg to play in a 4-3-1-2 formation with the currently strong Demirović up front alongside Phillip Tietz. There is still a question mark over Kristijan Jakić, who could be replaced by Niklas Dorsch, who was previously injured. Otherwise, the starting eleven remains unchanged.
Leipzig will play in a classic 4-4-2 formation, but Amadou Haidara, who recently returned from the Africa Cup, could replace Kevin Kampl in the starting eleven. Mohamed Simakan is also still an option in defense, having recently had to miss out due to a yellow card suspension
