Atletico Madrid – Osasuna

Our Atletico – Osasuna tip is: Atletico to win – 1.32 odds

  • Atletico are in 2nd place in La Liga
  • Atletico Madrid have won their last five games (across all competitions)
  • Simeone’s team are unbeaten at home this season

With an impressive run of five wins in a row, Atlético Madrid will host Osasuna, who are in tenth place in the table, at the Metropolitano on Sunday afternoon. Diego Simeone’s team are currently in impressive form and are just two points behind league leaders Real Madrid in second place. The development of the last few weeks has been particularly interesting – the Colchoneros have quietly transformed themselves into genuine title contenders.

The visitors from Pamplona, on the other hand, are stuck in the middle of the table. Osasuna showed signs of an upward trend in their recent 2-1 cup win over Tenerife, but the challenge in the Metropolitano is likely to be a different matter. Atlético, after all, won their last competitive game narrowly but deservedly 1-0 against Marbella – even though Simeone rested some of his regular players. It will be interesting to see what line-up he puts out this time. Find out who will come out on top in the end in our Atletico – Osasuna tip.

Atletico Form & Balance Check

Atlético Madrid are currently in impressive form and have worked their way up to second place in the table with an impressive run of five wins in a row. The latest 2-1 away win against FC Barcelona was a particularly impressive victory, with Alexander Sørloth scoring the golden goal in injury time. Diego Simeone’s team are now just two points behind leaders Real Madrid and have built up a comfortable three-point lead over Barcelona.

The new offensive power of the Colchoneros is particularly interesting. In the last five games, the team has scored in every game and shown remarkable efficiency in front of goal. Even in the recent cup game against underdogs Marbella (1-0), they came out on top despite a mediocre performance – a sign of true winning spirit. Antoine Griezmann is in outstanding form and his accuracy is one of the reasons for the team’s current success.

Form curve pointing upwards

It’s fair to say that Simeone’s team is currently playing the form of its life. The defense is as stable as ever, while the offense has become much more variable and unpredictable. To be honest, before the season hardly anyone would have expected Atlético to be in such a promising position in the title race at this point in time. Particularly impressive: in the second half of the games, the team shows exceptional strength and has scored in 80 percent of the games.

Atletico facts & analysis
  • 2nd in La Liga
  • 13 wins in a row (all competitions)
  • Atletico lost the last game against Osasuna 1:4

Osasuna form & record check

Osasuna are currently going through a difficult phase in La Liga, which is also reflected in their league position. With 25 points, the team shares 10th place with Real Betis, while Celta Vigo are just one point behind them. Interestingly, the team have been showing two faces: in the league, they have not won recently, only getting two points out of their last three games after draws against Espanyol (0-0) and Alaves (2-2).

In the cup, however, things are going much better. The recent 2-1 win against Tenerife meant advancing to the next round, after previously beating AD Ceuta 3-2. It is striking that Osasuna scores in 80 percent of their recent games, but at the same time regularly concede goals – a pattern that has been evident throughout the season.

Personnel shortage

The personnel situation has been further complicated by the departure of Javi Martínez, whose contract was terminated this week. At least the team can rely on its top scorer Ante Budimir, who continues to score goals. It remains to be seen whether coach Vicente Moreno can find the right balance between offensive power and defensive stability in the second half of the season.

Osasuna facts & analysis
  • 10th place in La Liga
  • Without a La Liga win in their last three games
  • Only one win in their last ten meetings with Atletico

Atlético Madrid will play in their next home game against Osasuna. Head coach Diego Simeone is likely to stick with his proven 4-4-2 system again, with Griezmann’s strong form particularly eye-catching. In attack, the Frenchman could line up together with Sørloth, who has been convincing of late. It will be interesting to see whether Simeone makes any major changes after the recent successes – personally, I expect rather subtle adjustments.

Fortunately for the Colchoneros, there are currently no key players missing through injury or suspension. This gives Simeone the opportunity to draw on a full squad. It will be interesting to see whether he opts for this formation or has one or two surprises in store.

As things stand, Osasuna are likely to line up in their usual 4-4-2 system, although the departure of Javi Martínez means that there are still some tactical questions to be answered in the midfield. The line-up at wing-back positions will be particularly interesting – here, coach Moreno could well spring a surprise.

It will be particularly exciting to see whether top striker Budimir can confirm his current goal-scoring form. The back four, on the other hand, seems to be set, even though Moreno has been keen to experiment in recent games. In central midfield, Torró and Moncayola should provide defensive stability, while Peña and García should provide offensive impetus on the flanks.

Atletico – Osasuna head to head & statistics

A glance at the last five meetings between Atlético Madrid and Osasuna reveals some interesting patterns. Four of the five games were won by the Madrilenians – only in the most recent clash in May 2024 did Osasuna pull off the only success with a surprising 4-1 away win.

Prior to that, Atlético dominated this fixture with an impressive run of four consecutive wins: 2-0 (September 2023), 3-0 (May 2023), 1-0 (January 2023) and 3-0 (2022). What is striking is that in all these encounters, the Simeone XI kept a clean sheet.
