AS Roma – Juventus

With just three points separating them and a lot of prestige at stake, AS Roma and Juventus will face each other at the Stadio Olimpico on Sunday evening. Roma coach Claudio Ranieri is hoping to maintain the momentum of his recently victorious team, while Juve’s new coach Igor Tudor urgently needs a sense of achievement. For Leandro Paredes, it will be particularly exciting: the midfielder could shine against his former club after rumors of a return to Boca Juniors were recently circulating.

  • Competition: Serie A (Regular Season – 31)

AS Roma Form & Record Check

AS Roma are currently in great form. Five wins from their last six games have lifted the Giallorossi to 6th place in the table, level on points with Lazio. What is impressive is that the Romans rarely score in the first half, but put their opponents under pressure all the more effectively in the second half. Their most recent 1-0 win over Lecce was a prime example of this: controlled and defensively stable for long spells before Dovbyk made the decision shortly before time. With this approach, Roma could even fight their way up into the Champions League places if they were to beat Juventus again.

At the Romans, Claudio Ranieri is expected to field a 3-4-2-1 system, with Mancini, Hummels and Ndicka forming the back three. Saelemaekers and Angeliño are likely to take up the wing positions, with Koné and Cristante presumably operating in the center. A bitter loss is Paulo Dybala, who is expected to be out until summer 2025 due to a torn tendon. As a result, Soulé and captain Pellegrini will take on the creative roles behind striker Dovbyk. Rensch and Abdulhamid are also out, which particularly limits the variability on the wings.

Juventus Form & Record Check

Juventus, on the other hand, are experiencing an up and down that unsettles fans and experts alike. Although they recently managed a 1-0 win against Genoa thanks to Yıldız, the team had previously conceded significant defeats such as the 0-4 loss to Atalanta. The elimination in the cup against Empoli after a penalty shootout also weighs on the mind. With 55 points, Juve are in 5th place in the table, while the gap to the top is shrinking. Coach Igor Tudor is in the middle of a difficult phase: after defender Federico Gatti is out with a broken fibula, the already shaky defense needs to be rebuilt. At least, Tudor is trying to strengthen the team spirit – the first steps were probably taken at a dinner together in former Juve defender Bonucci’s restaurant. It remains to be seen whether that is enough to consistently deliver a strong performance again.

On the Juventus side, Igor Tudor will probably also opt for a 3-4-2-1 formation. Di Gregorio will be in goal, with Baio, Kelly and Kalulu organizing the defense in front of him – Bremer and Gatti are missing due to injury. Locatelli and McKennie are likely to occupy the central midfield, flanked by Thuram and Veiga. Koopmeiners and Yıldız could swirl around behind Vlahović in attack. Tudor will also have to continue without Luiz, Cambiaso, Cabal and Milik, which puts additional strain on the already limited squad. It remains to be seen whether this formation is up to the task against Roma.

AS Roma – Juventus Head-to-Head & Statistics

The head-to-head between Roma and Juventus has been characterized by defensive approaches lately. In the last five meetings, there has only been one win each and three draws. Interestingly, all the encounters ended with less than 2.5 goals. The last meeting in September 2024 was even goalless – a game in which both sides barely created any clear-cut chances. In 80% of the matches, the teams went into the break all square, underlining the cautious style of play of both sides. If one team manages to score an early goal this time, it could change the course of the game.
