Arsenal form & record check
After a difficult period, Arsenal are now back to their good start to the season. They have drawn two of their last five games, against Chelsea and, most recently, Fulham, and have won three times against Man United, West Ham and Nottingham.
This points haul has seen them move up to third place in the table, although they still have a game in hand and are still six points behind league leaders Liverpool FC. They must take three points from their city rivals to stay in the race for the championship. The Londoners have also been doing very well in the Champions League so far. They moved up to third place with a 3-0 win over Monaco during the week.
Home Power
What will certainly help them in their quest for the three points is their home strength. The Londoners seem to be able to get the extra percentage points out of their home crowd time and again. They have five wins and two draws from their seven home games so far and, along with Brentford, are the only team to remain unbeaten at home.
They are third in the home table with 17 points and a goal difference of 17:6. The Emirates Stadium has become a fortress for Mikel Arteta’s team, which has not been taken by any team in any competition this season.
Arsenal facts & analysis
- Third place
- Still unbeaten at home
- Last game 1:1 against Fulham
Everton form & record check
The Toffees are currently having a difficult time in the Premier League. This year, too, they have to defend themselves against relegation. From their last five duels, they got two draws against West Ham and Brentford, were beaten by Southampton and Manchester United, but were able to end their losing streak in their last competitive game against Wolves with a 4-0 victory.
The last matchday was canceled for Everton due to inclement weather, so Sean Dyche’s team will start this away game in top form. Currently in 15th place with 14 points after 14 games, they urgently need points to increase their lead over the relegation zone.
Away difficulties
A big problem for the Liverpool team is their performance in away games. While they repeatedly show solid football at home, they have a much harder time playing away from home. In their previous seven away games, they have only managed a single win, a 2-0 victory over Ipswich, and have otherwise drawn twice and lost four times.
These five points and a goal difference of 5:13 put Everton in 18th place in the away table, which would be the theoretical direct descent. Against Arsenal, they have to try to overcome this away weakness, otherwise it could be a very bitter afternoon for them.
Everton Facts & Analysis
- 15th place in the table
- Won away
- Last game 4-0 win against Wolves
The Gunners will start in their usual 4-3-3, but with a few rotations. Compared to the game in the Champions League, left-back Timber will start for Lewis-Skelly and Havertz will also return to the squad in place of Gabriel Jesus. On the wings, Mikel Arteta will have to choose between Trossard and Martinelli.
Everton have had a long break and will not make any changes to their starting lineup. Sean Dyche will again send his team out on the pitch in a 4-2-3-1 formation, relying on exactly the same eleven that won 4-0 against Wolves last time out.
This traditional clash between Arsenal and Everton has taken place 209 times. 206 of these duels were played in the Premier League, twice they met in the League Cup and once only in the FA Cup. The numbers from the past speak more than clearly for the Londoners.
Arsenal have already won 105 of these encounters, while Everton have only emerged victorious on 61 occasions. A total of 43 of these matches have ended in a draw. In the last encounter, which also took place in London, Havertz scored a late goal to secure a narrow 2-1 victory.
