Arsenal FC vs. Liverpool FC

It’s not just in the Bundesliga that we can expect a real top match this weekend with FC Bayern’s clash with Borussia Dortmund. If you don’t want to miss anything about the German classic, then you should read our Dortmund – Bayern betting tip.

But it could be that the upcoming top match of the Premier League is even more exciting. In England, league leaders Arsenal will face Liverpool on Sunday. The Gunners are currently unstoppable. For coach Mikel Arteta’s team, the current week has been very successful. The Gunners ended last weekend with a 3-1 home win over Tottenham in the North London derby. With that push of confidence, Arsenal went on to face Bodö/Glimt at home in the Europa League on Thursday. The Londoners won this game as well. Thus, Arsenal will host the Reds in captivating form.

Liverpool FC also won their game on international soil during the week. At Anfield Road, coach Jürgen Klopp’s team beat Rangers from Glasgow 2-0. But in the Premier League, things are currently going poorly for the team from Merseyside. Most recently, the Reds only drew 3-3 with Brighton & Hove Albion. Liverpool need to get back to normal form as soon as possible if they are not to drop out of the championship fight early in the season. What we expect from this top match, you can read in our Arsenal – Liverpool Tip.

Arsenal Form & Balance Check

Arsenal warmed up for their Europa League clash with Liverpool with a 2-0 home win over Bodö/Glimt on Thursday. Coach Mikel Arteta fielded a B eleven, which served to spare the Gunners’ starting eleven for Sunday. The success in the Europa League was the fourth win in a row. The Gunners have lost only one of their eleven competitive matches so far this season. On 4 September, the Londoners lost 3-1 at Manchester United. After that defeat, the current league leaders won 3-0 at Brentford and most recently 3-1 against Tottenham. In England, Arsenal are the team of the moment with Man City.

Full steam ahead!

The Gunners owe their outstanding season so far to a very strong attack. They have already scored 20 goals in eight Premier League games. Only Manchester City scored more than Arsenal with 29 goals. In addition, the Londoners concede only one goal per game on average. However, coach Arteta’s team has conceded five of its eight goals at home so far. At the Emirates, the Gunners have scored eleven goals in four home games so far, all of which the Londoners have won. Thus, the statistics also favour a home win on Sunday.

Arsenal facts & analysis

 – Arsenal are in 1st place in the table with 21 points.
 – Most recently, the Gunners won 3-1 over Tottenham.
 – The Londoners have won 4 competitive matches as a result.

Liverpool form & balance check

Liverpool FC also won their international duel during the week. With 2-0 the Reds beat Rangers from Scotland at home. However, Jürgen Klopp’s team scored both goals from a free kick and a penalty. It was difficult to score a goal out of the game. However, the last game in the Premier League was a step forward in what has been an underachieving season so far, especially on the offensive. Liverpool turned around a 2-0 deficit against the Seagulls, but conceded a 3-3 equaliser shortly before the end. The 0-0 draw at Everton was followed by another draw. The Merseyside side have already drawn four times in the Premier League.

Three goals conceded again

The Reds’ usually feared defence, has been the big weak point this season. Liverpool have conceded nine goals in seven Premier League games. The Reds have only scored nil in two games this season. In the Champions League, too, the defence is anything but solid. Although Liverpool won without conceding a goal against Rangers on Tuesday, they conceded four against Napoli. Ajax also scored once against the upcoming visitors. So the Reds have only played to nil three times this season. After Napoli, Brighton became the first team to score at least three times against the Reds.

Liverpool facts & analysis

 – Liverpool are in 9th place in the table with 10 points.
 – Most recently, the Reds drew 3-3 with Brighton.
 – Liverpool are undefeated in 4 Premier League duels.

Predicted line-up – last update on 7 October 2022

It is strongly expected that Mikel Arteta will choose the same starting line-up that last won the North London derby 3-1. Against Spurs, Thomas Partey, Gabriel Jesus and Granit Xhaka scored the goals for the Gunners. But Arsenal are not only dangerous through the centre via Ödegaard, Xhaka and Thomas. The two wingers Martinelli and Saka are also in captivating form. Not to mention Jesus, who has already scored five times in the Premier League.

Jürgen Klopp will still have to do without his left-back Robertson on Sunday. However, the Scot is making progress after his injury. Most recently, Tsimikas played in his position. In addition, Liverpool are again spoilt for choice on the offensive. Nunez, Jota and Diaz are all fit to play and provide an alternative to Firmino and Carvalho, who were in the starting line-up alongside Salah against Brighton.

It is unlikely that young Carvalho will start against Arsenal as well. Diaz is the most likely solution on the left wing. Recently, the Reds again revealed big gaps in the defence. Van Dijk is far from being in top form and is not innocent of the fact that Liverpool have already conceded nine goals. The usually so strong counter-pressing is only partially working this season.

Arsenal – Liverpool direct comparison & Statistics

Although Arsenal are currently at the top of the table, this fact does not change the fact that the Gunners have lost their last three duels with Liverpool. The Londoners last won against the Reds in the Community Shield in the 2019/20 season.

 – The Gunners’ last home win over Liverpool in the Premier League was in May 2020.
 – Arsenal have won only one home game out of their last five in the Premier League against Liverpool.
 – Liverpool won three consecutive games to nil against Arsenal.
