Arsenal Form & Balance Check
Last weekend, a new chapter may have been written in the club’s history. After a home defeat to Aston Villa, Arsenal were on the verge of abandoning their title hopes for the second successive season.
The away game against Tottenham, a matchday 29 replay, looked like an imminent misstep for the London club. Soccer loves a tragic turn of events, and defeat at their oldest rivals seemed inevitable for the Gunners, who had already slumped once in this season’s final stretch. Worse still, just days earlier Liverpool had surrendered the championship after a defeat at rivals Everton.
Final spurt
However, things turned out differently. In the first half, which Spurs dominated with 71% possession, the visitors showed a completely different face: they were aggressive in transition and extremely effective in front of goal. As a result, they led by three goals at half-time, two of which came from corner kicks and another from a counter-attack finished off by Bukayo Saka.
In the second half, Mikel Arteta’s men experienced anxious moments when they conceded a goal through a poor clearance by David Raya, before their lead dwindled further through a penalty converted by Heung-Min Son. However, they held on to secure victory in a game that could go down as one of the most important North London derbies of the last decade.
To confirm this successful campaign and retain their lead at the top of the Premier League, thanks to a one-game advantage over Manchester City, Arsenal will need to continue their success and prevail against a surprisingly strong Bournemouth side.

Bournemouth Form & Balance Check
Bournemouth could almost have challenged for a European place. In fact, seventh place, which would have likely qualified for the Europa Conference League through the Manchester derby in the FA Cup final, would have given all the other teams in the top half of the table a chance.
Unfortunately, a run of three games without a win in April, including a defeat to Luton Town, saw the Cherries fall behind in the race for the top seven. Despite playing one more game, they are three points behind Chelsea and five points behind Newcastle.
How far can they go?
The real goal for the club now is to stay in the top half of the table and battle with West Ham for ninth place, which would be their best finish since 2017.
Andoni Iraola’s men were particularly dangerous on foreign soil at the end of last year, with wins at Crystal Palace and Manchester United’s grounds. However, they have lost their dominance since then.
So far in 2024, they have only managed two away wins in the Premier League (in addition to two draws and three defeats). Nevertheless, they would like to regain that effectiveness
Bournemouth facts & analysis

- Two wins & two defeats from the last five games
- Poor defense with 60 goals conceded
