Eintracht Frankfurt vs. Arminia Bielefeld
Frankfurt Eintracht have been almost unrecognisable for a few weeks now. At the beginning of the Bundesliga they still dropped many important points. However, that changed at the end of the Hinrunde. They have won six and drawn one of their last nine league games. They only had to accept defeats against Dortmund and Hoffenheim. Otherwise, they have developed from candidates for relegation to European contenders. Nevertheless, the most recent draw against FCA is probably more of a disappointment. Good things come to those who wait. That is probably the motto of coach Oliver Glasner.
Things are going similarly at Arminia. At the start of the season, they slipped straight into the bottom of the table. Actually, they have been in a relegation spot since the beginning. However, at the end of the first half of the season and at the beginning of the second half, they presented themselves as anything but relegation candidates. They were able to win against teams like RB Leipzig and Bochum, and they also managed to get a point against the strong Freiburg team. Nevertheless, the same must be said here as with Frankfurt. Because the last result, the 2:2 against bottom of the table Fürth, is also rather a disappointment for Arminia.

Frankfurt Form & Balance Check
The start of the 2021/22 season for Frankfurt was like New Year’s Eve for coach Oliver Glasner – a fall on the face. After that, however, they caught themselves relatively quickly and started picking up points. The narrow last-minute win against Fürth was the starting signal for a few very successful weeks for the Hessians. Victories against Freiburg, Union Berlin and Leverkusen followed. Only at the guest game in Sinsheim did the Eagles have to settle for an empty score.
At the turn of the year, not much changed for the Frankfurt team, but not everything remained the same. The performances are still very appealing and ready for Europe, only the results are no longer right. In the clash with BVB at the start of the second half of the season, Eintracht were in front for a long time before they completely gave away a 2:0 lead in the last 20 minutes. The performance was also good in Augsburg, but not the result. Frankfurt had many high-calibre chances, but they failed to take advantage of them all. So they are still without a win in 2022.
Full focus on Bielefeld
Eintracht have an advantage compared to other Bundesliga teams this week. They do not have to compete in the DFB Cup. This spares them the double burden, giving them more time to prepare for the duel with Arminia. However, this extra regeneration time won’t do them much good in the showdown with Bielefeld, as the men from the Alm are also no longer in the German Cup.
Frankfurt facts & analysis
– Frankfurt in strong form at the end of 2021.
– No win since the turn of the year
– Performances are right, results are not
– No DFB Cup during the week
Bielefeld form & balance check
Looking at the last few weeks of the Hinrunde, football fans like us are unlikely to get the idea that Bielefeld are in second last place in the table. They have taken maximum points from the last two games of 2021 against Bochum and Leipzig with two wins. This is more like a team competing for the international places. This optimum points haul has allowed the Arminen to stalk the teams ahead of them.
However, there is always a flip side to the coin. They haven’t picked up a win since the second-round opener and the form that was so strong has waned. While the draw against Freiburg can be seen as a success, last weekend’s draw against Fürth is still a big disappointment. Had they won that game, they would have increased the gap to the Franconians and also made a leap out of the relegation zone. Now comes Frankfurt, against whom it will be much harder to pick up points.
Adios Amos
The Arminen can probably say that about defender Amos Pieper in the summer, as his contract will then expire. So he is currently in a very good position. He can negotiate with other clubs without having to consider his own club. Probably no top European clubs will come knocking on his door, but there should be some interested parties from the Bundesliga. The likelihood of him staying at Arminia over the summer is probably close to zero.
Bielefeld facts & analysis
– Bielefeld not lost for four games
– Most recently disappointed against Fürth
– Still without a win in 2022
– Defence boss Pieper facing departure
Predicted line-up – last update on 19 January 2022
If everything goes according to plan for Frankfurt, they can look forward to the return of keeper Trapp and winger Kostic. Both will have survived their quarantine and will be available again. However, it is more likely that Trapp will start than Kostic, as the load structure at the goalkeeper position is quite manageable. With a bit of luck, however, both can play from the start.
On the Bielefeld side, there is also a comeback. Fabian Klos will return to the squad after his red card suspension. Serra could also replace Lasme in the starting eleven. Frank Kramer may also bring in both attackers to exude more power in the offensive.

However, it can also be mentioned that they have scored in three of the past four away games in Hesse and have thus only suffered one defeat.
