Crystal Palace vs. West Ham United
While almost all other European football leagues are in hibernation, the English Premier League is busy playing football even on New Year’s Day. Among other things, we can look forward to the duel between Crystal Palace and West Ham United on 1 January 2022. Kick-off is at 18:30 at Selhurst Park.
On the last matchday, both teams managed to win again after rather less successful weeks. Now, of course, the upward trend should be continued and who we think is more likely to do that and what else we think about this game is now revealed to you in our Crystal Palace vs West Ham tip.

Crystal Palace -West Ham Tip
After two and three games without a win, Crystal Palace and West Ham United both picked up three points on the last matchday of the Premier League. Both clubs absolutely lived up to their role as favourites last Tuesday – the Eagles against Norwich City (3-0) and the Hammers at FC Watford (1-4). The clubs now want to take this momentum into the new year and preferably achieve the next success there. Only one team, if any, can do that and we will find out which team that will be early on Saturday evening from 18:30.
Crystal Palace Form & Balance Check
Crystal Palace are one of those teams this Premier League season that, while not at the top of the table, are extremely difficult to beat. Patrick Vieira’s team has suffered only six defeats in the first 19 games of the season – the same number as West Ham United and Arsenal FC, for example. However, the many draws at the start of the season (6 after 9 games) have prevented the Eagles from moving a little higher up the rankings.
Eagles on the rise again
In late November/early December, Crystal Palace finally suffered their first really bad patch of the season with three consecutive defeats, but it was short-lived. There was a 3:1 win over Everton FC, followed by a 2:2 draw against Southampton FC. Jordan Ayew & and his colleagues then lost 3-0 at Tottenham Hotspur, before the most recent encounter with Norwich City was again won 3-0. At home, the Eagles have picked up seven points out of a possible nine, while away from home they have been without a win for four games. Therefore, there should be great joy to start the new calendar year with a game in front of the home crowd on Saturday.
Crystal Palace Facts & Analysis
– 23 points from 19 games
– Last win 3-0 against Norwich
– 6th in the home table
– Away from home only 16th
West Ham Form & Balance Check
The visitors came from 1-4 down at Watford FC last Tuesday to hopefully finally turn things around once again. After a furious start to the season and seven wins from the first eleven games, the Hammers have been falling further and further down the table of late. For some time now, Michail Antonio & Co. have been unable to convince, especially in the role of favourites. Before the latest success at Watford, West Ham had only won one of their last seven Premier League games – and not against one of the basement children, but against the reigning Champions League winners Chelsea FC (3:2).
Hammers soon only mediocre?
Apart from that, David Moyes’ team lost at Wolverhampton Wanderers (1-0) and against Southampton FC (2-3). Against Brighton (1:1) and Burnley (0:0) they did not manage more than a draw. A top 6 finish is therefore becoming less likely with each passing week. West Ham are slipping more and more, while previously stumbling teams like Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United are breathing down the Hammers’ necks and could soon pass them by. The Capitals are in desperate need of a little winning streak to avoid disappearing into no-man’s land in the table.
West Ham Facts & Analysis
– 31 points from 19 games
– Last win 1:4 at Waford
– 4th place in the away table
– But: only 4 points from last 5 away games
Predicted line-up – last update on 30 December 2021
Crystal Palace have no injury worries at the moment, so coach Patrick Vieira can draw from a full complement. He should have little reason to make changes after the recent 3-0 win over bottom side Norwich.
West Ham are still without centre-backs Angelo Ogbonna and Kurt Zouma. We can therefore expect Craig Dawson and Issa Diop as central players in the back four. The starting eleven could also remain almost unchanged compared to the 1-4 win at Watford. Declan Rice will return to the starting line-up after serving his yellow ban
