SC Freiburg vs. SpVgg Greuther Fürth
On the 10th matchday of the Bundesliga, SC Freiburg could achieve something historic. It could remain unbeaten in Germany’s highest division for the tenth time in a row, something that has only happened twice in the club’s entire history. The opponents for this mission are SpVgg Greuther Fürth on Saturday at 15:30 in the new Europa-Park Stadium.
The teams are worlds apart in the standings. While the hosts are currently in third place, the visitors from Fürth are stuck at the bottom of the table. Whether the upcoming duel will also reflect these conditions and what other predictions we have for this game, you can read now in our Freiburg vs Fürth tip.

Freiburg -Fürth Tip
The hosts are the only unbeaten team in the Bundesliga after nine matchdays and will naturally want to maintain that streak at home against bottom side Greuther Fürth. The Kleeblätter currently have just one point on their account and will almost certainly have to go back to the 2. Liga at the end of the season. However, the Fürth team does not want to give up early on. With a win in Freiburg, the gap to 16th place could be reduced to two points for the time being. For Freiburg, the next three points would ideally even allow them to jump up to second place.
Freiburg Form & Balance Check
The SC Freiburg success story goes on and on. After nine matchdays, Christian Streich’s team is still the only one in the entire Bundesliga that has yet to suffer a single defeat. In the last two games, the Breisgauers faced the two Champions League representatives RB Leipzig and VfL Wolfsburg, and even from these games they managed to take a strong four points. If the Sport-Club keeps this up, they may be competing in this competition themselves next season, although it is of course far too early for such speculation.
How long will the highs last this year?
A strong start to the season, even if it is exceptionally good again this year, is something that the Freiburg team has achieved many times in recent years. However, at the latest from the point at which it seemed as if they had secured their place in the league, things pretty much always went downhill. One almost had the impression that the down-to-earth club from the south did not even want to participate in international competitions. This year, however, things could be different, because whoever takes seven out of nine points from the duels with Dortmund, Leipzig and Wolfsburg actually belongs in the top six of the Bundesliga. On the coming matchday, however, the Breisgauers must first prove themselves in a role that usually doesn’t suit them so well – namely the role of favourites.
Freiburg Facts & Analysis
– 19 points from 9 games
– Last win 0:2 in Wolfsburg
– Only unbeaten team in the league
– Could go 11 games unbeaten in a row for the first time in history (currently 9)
Fürth Form & Balance Check
The visitors from Fürth have picked up just one point in their first nine games and are slowly but surely having to admit that the Bundesliga is probably still one or two numbers too big for the Kleeblatt. Apart from the 1-1 draw against Arminia Bielefeld, Fürth have only ever lost matches, most recently in Cologne (3-1), against Bochum (0-1) and in Leipzig (4-1). In the most recent defeat in Leipzig, the promoted team even took the lead in the last minute of the first half, but was already 2-1 down again in the 53rd minute.
Cloverleaf with too little quality
It was already the third away match in which SpVgg took a 0:1 lead but still ended up empty-handed. In both the 2-1 defeat in Berlin and the 3-1 loss in Cologne, Fürth scored the first goal of the game. The team’s qualities, however, just don’t seem to be enough to hold on to a lead. In addition, the offensive has big problems with scoring goals. Half of Fürth’s six goals this season were penalty kicks by Branimir Hrgota.
Fürth facts & Analysis
– 1 point from 9 games
– Last lost 4:1 in Leipzig
– 6 goals in the season – 3 of them penalties
– Led 3 times away 0:1, still always lost
Predicted line-up – last updated 28 Oct 2021
There is still a question mark behind the use of Philipp Lienhart. If he cannot play, he will either be replaced 1:1 by Kevin Schlotterbeck or Dominik Heintz, or Freiburg will switch to a four-man defence and field another offensive force in Roland Sallai or Ermedin Demirovic. Nicolas Höfler’s fitness for action is also still in question. His replacement would be Jannik Haberer.
Havard Nielsen is questionable for SpVgg. He could be replaced by Julian Green or Timothy Tillmann. In the forward line, we expect Cedric Itten to play alongside Branimir Hrgota. However, there are a few more options there as well.
