Hoffenheim -Hertha Tip
The starting situation is quite different. In the table, the teams are currently neighbours (11th and 12th), but the way there has been very different. While TSG have alternated wins and defeats in their last four games, the Berliners have recently won twice in a row after a rather weak start to the season. Together with the success in the cup, the capital club is now on three competitive match wins in a row. With another win, the Old Lady could even move up to sixth place, while TSG could still finish seventh.
Hoffenheim Form & Balance Check
After the surprisingly clear 5-0 win against 1. FC Köln, TSG Hoffenheim suffered the expected high defeat in Munich last weekend. In the end, the 4:0 score was acceptable, even though it could have been a better result from TSG’s point of view, as two of the four goals conceded only came after the 80th minute. In the last four games, there have been alternating victories and defeats, so statistically it would be the turn of a win again against Hertha.
Alte Dame a welcome guest
These statistics are not the only ones in favour of the home side on Friday. Hoffenheim have lost just one of their last eleven Bundesliga games against Hertha BSC, having lost a whopping five of their first eleven encounters. Hoffenheim have also won five of their last seven Bundesliga home games, most recently by a clear 5-0 scoreline, while the emphatic victory over Cologne was their highest Bundesliga win since the departure of Julian Nagelsmann. Against Hertha, the Kraichgauer want to build on this performance and move into the top half of the table with a win.
Hoffenheim Facts & Analysis
– 11 points from 9 games
– Last lost 4:0 at Bayern
– Won 5 of last 7 BL home games
– Lost only 1 of last 11 duels with Hertha
Hertha form & balance check
The visitors from Berlin are getting better and better after a bumpy start to the season. From a footballing point of view, Pal Dardai’s team still doesn’t look very good week in, week out, but at least the results are coming. After three defeats at the start of the season, the Old Lady has won four of the last six league games. First against promoted Bochum (1:3) and Greuther Fürth (2:1) and on the last two matchdays against Eintracht Frankfurt (1:2) and Borussia Mönchengladbach (1:0).
Boyata stabilises the defence
As already mentioned, however, these victories have all been work wins. In the 1-0 win against Gladbach, the Berliners didn’t really have a goal-scoring chance worth mentioning, apart from the goal by Marco Richter, but they also hardly allowed any dangerous scenes at the back. With Dedryck Boyata and Marton Dardai as the centre-back duo, the defence seems to have finally regained some stability. Against Frankfurt a week earlier, the defensive duo of Stark and Boyata only conceded one goal via a penalty. It shows how important the return of the Belgian defender is for the entire Berlin team.
Hertha facts & analysis
– 12 point from 9 games
– Last win 1:0 against Gladbach
– Played to nil against Gladbach for the first time this season
– Only against Bayern higher defeat rate (59%) than against Hoffenheim (50%)
Predicted line-up – last update on 27 October 2021
For TSG Hoffenheim, Christoph Baumgartner (Corona) is still questionable. Jacob Bruun Larsen would probably play in his place. Apart from that, the starting eleven should be fixed.
On the Berlin side, it could either be a three-man backline of Boyata, Stark and Dardai or a four-man backline with Boyata and Stark/Dardai in the IV. In midfield, as always, there are many options. Jürgen Ekkelenkamp will probably have to sit on the bench again, just like Lucas Tousart.
