Arsenal FC vs. Crystal Palace
To round off Matchday 8 of the Premier League, we can look forward to the London derby between Arsenal FC and Crystal Palace on Monday evening. Kick-off is 21:00 at the Emirates Stadium.
For the Gunners, the aim on this day is to continue the positive trend of the last few matchdays. But that won’t be easy, because although Palace are relatively poor in the table, only two absolute top clubs have managed to defeat Patrick Vieira’s team so far. Whether we still think the hosts can win and what other predictions we would make is now revealed in our Arsenal vs Crystal Palace tip.

Arsenal -Crystal Palace Tip
On paper, the hosts go into the game as relatively clear favourites. In the table, the hosts have worked their way up to eleventh place thanks to the successes of recent weeks, while Crystal Palace are on the edge of the relegation places with seven points. The visitors have not been beaten many times so far, but have also only picked up a single win. Arsenal could move up to seventh with a win, while Palace could leap as high as eleventh with a treble.
Arsenal form & balance check
After the worst start to a season in the club’s history (0 points and 0:9 goals after 3 games), Arsenal FC have gradually got back on track in recent weeks. The first two wins against Norwich City (1-0) and at Burnley FC (0-1) were very close, but still earned the first six points of the season – and that’s what it’s all about at the end of the day. In the North London derby against Tottenham Hotspur, Arsenal FC have already been a little more convincing.
Gunners convince in London derby
Thanks to early goals from Smith-Rowe (12th), Aubameyang (27th) and Saka (37th), the Gunners already went into the break with a 3-0 lead, which is why Heung-Min Son’s follow-up goal in the 79th minute was bearable. On the last matchday (0:0 at Brighton & Hove Albion), however, there was almost nothing left of this good performance. In the end, Mikel Arteta’s team could even be happy to have taken a point at all, given the 21:8 shots and 59% possession for Brighton. Even though Brighton are in an excellent position with 14 points, it must be Arsenal’s ambition to take three points from this away game. They will now make up for it against Crystal Palace.
Arsenal facts & Analysis
– 10 points from 7 games
– Last played 0-0 at Brighton
– Only 1 goal conceded in last 4 games
– Won only 1 of last 5 duels with Palace
Crystal Palace form & balance check
The visitors will be neither really satisfied nor really dissatisfied with the way the season has gone so far. On the positive side, Crystal Palace have only lost to Chelsea FC (3:0) and Liverpool FC (3:0), even though both defeats were quite clear in the end. On the negative side, they have only managed one win in the first seven matchdays. Apart from the 3-0 win over Tottenham Hotspur, the points have been shared in four of the seven games.
Palace with next draw against Arsenal?
The 2-2 draw with Leicester will have felt like a win on the last day of the game as Palace were 2-0 down until the 61st minute. In contrast, the draw against Brighton a week earlier was two points lost as the Londoners conceded the equaliser only in the 95th minute. Against Arsenal, however, Wilfired Zaha & Co. would probably already be satisfied with a point. In recent years, the two teams have often parted with a draw. Before the 1:3 defeat in May 2021, three meetings with Arsenal FC in a row ended in a draw.
Crystal Palace facts & analysis
– 7 points from 7 games
– Last played 2:2 against Leicester
– Drawn 4 out of 7 games played
– Lost only to Liverpool and Chelsea so far
Predicted line-up – last updated 15 Oct 2021
The hosts will probably have to do without Granit Xhaka until the end of the year, who has suffered an inner ligament injury. He could once again be replaced by Albert Lokonga. Compared to the last league match, there should be no changes in terms of personnel, as Xhaka was already unable to play there.
On the visitors’ side, we do not expect any changes after the 2-2 draw against Leicester. They will again play in a 4-3-3 with Edouard as the only top player. There are no injury concerns at the moment.
“He is an Arsenal legend and I hope he gets the reception he deserves for what he did for the club, not only as a player but also what he transmitted as a person.”

The direct comparison is unsurprisingly clearly in favour of the hosts, who have won 25 of the 42 meetings. 13 encounters ended in draws and only four times did Crystal Palace emerge victorious.
