Tennis Tips Today – Today’s Matches on August 12
What do Toronto, Hamburg, and Astana have in common these days? That’s right—these three cities are each hosting ATP and WTA tournaments, all of which have made their way into my “Tennis Tips Today” column.
But of course, at the top of my list is the women’s highlight of the Canadian Open. After all, many betting sites—both established and new—are even featuring the semifinal between Svitolina and Swiatek on their homepages!
Tennis Tips Today – August 12, 2026: Toronto, Astana, Hamburg!
Together with you, I’ll be covering the most interesting matches on the ATP and WTA calendars for August 12. Specifically, my tennis tips today cover a total of four tournaments.
First up, of course, is the prestigious women’s semifinal between Svitolina and Swiatek. By the way, you’ll find several odds boosts available here that could maximize your winnings.
In addition, I’m also keeping an eye on the Challenger tournament in Hamburg, where I’ll be covering three matches featuring German players—namely those of Möller, McDonald, and Schönhaus.
Toronto Picks Tonight: Svitolina – Swiatek (1:00 a.m.)
The semifinals of the National Bank Open in Toronto feature an absolute clash of the titans with the match between Elina Svitolina and Iga Swiatek. I’m definitely tuning in! Both tennis greats stormed through the quarterfinals with impressive performances anyway.
While Swiatek literally swept Russian Diana Shnaider off the court in a blistering 6-2, 6-1 rout, Svitolina had to show real fighting spirit against Ekaterina Alexandrova after falling behind in the first set before securing her spot in the semifinals with a 3-6, 6-0, 6-3 victory.
Their head-to-head record promises an explosive matchup, because although Swiatek holds a narrow lead in their direct matchups on the tour, Svitolina has found a real formula against the Polish player this 2026 season, defeating her at both the Indian Wells Masters and in Rome (!).
On the fast hard court in Canada tonight, a bitter battle of attrition is inevitable—one in which Swiatek will aim to dictate play from the baseline with her extreme aggressiveness, but the tenacious defensive specialist Svitolina will make life difficult for her right down to the very last rally!
My prediction: It’ll be a three-set thriller!
Todi picks today: Galan – Gomez (8:30 p.m.)
Now we’re hopping from Canada to Italy! The round of 16 at the ATP Challenger in Todi promises a highly intriguing matchup when Colombian Daniel Elahi Galaan and Argentine Federico Agustín Gomez cross swords.
Galan got off to a brilliant start in the tournament, dispatching his first-round opponent, Murkel Dellien, with stoic composure in two straight sets (6-4, 6-2).
Gomez also demonstrated his outstanding form on the red clay in the first round, not giving Italian Juan Cruz Martin Manzano the slightest chance in a 6-1, 6-4 victory.
While Galan brings slightly more power from the baseline and ATP experience, his Argentine challenger has stood out in recent weeks with his enormous variety of shots and strong defensive stability. That’s why I’m taking the Gomez odds of 1.86.
My pick: Galan with more unforced errors!
Hamburg Picks Today: Brancaccio – Möller (2:30 p.m.)
And now on to the third tournament! The matchup at the ATP Challenger in Hamburg features Raul Brancaccio taking on German local hero Marvin Möller.
Brancaccio has established himself this season as a solid option on both clay and hard courts and looks to shift from defense to offense by varying his pace.
Möller, on the other hand, enters the match with home-court advantage and will try to take control of the match early on with powerful baseline shots in front of his home fans.
While Möller’s “home-court advantage” guarantees some resistance, Brancaccio currently brings greater consistency at the Challenger level, along with fewer fluctuations in his serve, and should ultimately secure a narrow victory in a closely contested match to advance to the next round.
My pick: Brancaccio has the greater talent!
Hamburg Picks Today: Schönhaus – Pucinelli de Almeida (3:40 p.m.)
I’m also interested in the second match at the ATP Challenger in Hamburg featuring German players!
Like Möller, Schönhaus enters the match with home-court advantage and will rely heavily on his aggressive baseline play and powerful serves to take control of the match early on in front of his home crowd.
However, as a tenacious clay-court and all-around specialist, Matheus Pucinelli de Almeida brings plenty of patience to the table and is a master at neutralizing his opponent’s waves of attacks with high spin.
Therefore, even in this case, the “home-court advantage” alone shouldn’t be enough!
At this level of play, the Brazilian currently brings a bit more cunning to the long rallies and should prevail relatively comfortably in a closely contested match!
My pick: The Brazilian will fight his way through!
Hamburg Tips Today, August 12: McDonald – Ribeiro (12:00 p.m.)
McDonald takes the court today in Hamburg as the third and final DTB player, backed by the support of the home crowd, and aims to disrupt his opponent’s rhythm early on with his carefree, aggressive baseline offense.
Ribeiro, on the other hand, is an established fighter who brings a lot of patience, high-spin shots, and plenty of experience on clay to dictate long rallies in his favor.
At noon today in the far north, we can undoubtedly expect a close, physically demanding match—but with his clay-court experience and greater defensive stability, Ribeiro is likely to ultimately dominate just as he did against Alcala Gurri in the previous round (6-4, 6-4).
My prediction: McDonald should also be eliminated in this round!
Astana Picks Aug. 12: Zhukayev – Alkaya (12:30 p.m.)
I’m also interested in the Round of 16 match at the ATP Challenger in faraway Astana between Kazakh local hero Beibit Zhukayev and Turkey’s Mert Alkaya!
Zhukayev is the clear favorite playing in front of his home crowd; standing nearly two meters tall, his serve is a formidable weapon that’s extremely difficult to break on the fast hard court in Astana.
So the game plan against Alkaya should be clear: Zhukayev will rack up a ton of free points on his first serve, dictate the match with his powerful attacks, and ultimately secure his spot in the quarterfinals in two sets without dropping many games.
My pick: Zhukayev wins comfortably in two straight sets!
