Tennis Tips Today – Today’s Matches on August 8
The weekend is kicking off, and the action on the hard courts is heating up. In my tennis tips today, I’ll be covering a total of three different tournaments. In addition to the ATP & WTA Canadian Open, I’ve also included the Challenger tournament in Hagen on the schedule this time.
As usual, I’ll be providing tennis betting recommendations for six matches, with Borges vs. Darderi being the sporting highlight.
Today’s Tennis Picks – August 8, 2026: Showdown in Montreal
Especially now that the Bundesliga is on summer break, our tennis picks are in higher demand than ever. This is particularly true in August, when many prestigious ATP and WTA tournaments are taking place around the world.
Since so many exciting matches are entering their decisive stages simultaneously this Saturday, I’ve picked out three matches for you—two in Montreal, two in Toronto, and one more at the Challenger in Hagen.
Montreal Tips Today, August 8: Rinderknech vs. Nakashima (6:30 p.m.)
In the round of 16 at the National Bank Open in Montreal, French serve specialist Arthur Rinderknech and U.S. precision player Brandon Nakashima will face off.
Rinderknech recently demonstrated his current hard-court form in impressive fashion by eliminating the favored American Frances Tiafoe in the previous round and, prior to that, pushing Miomir Kecmanovic to the limit in two hard-fought sets.
Brandon Nakashima, on the other hand, had to work a bit harder to secure his spot in the next round.
Against the tenacious French qualifier Titouan Droguet, the American initially fell behind but, after dropping the first set, turned the match around thanks to his usual baseline consistency and ultimately triumphed 4-6, 6-2, 7-5.
By the way: The only previous match between the two took place in May 2023 at the clay-court event in Lyon, where Nakashima came out on top in a dramatic three-set thriller (7-6, 1-6, 7-5).
That’s another reason why I’m backing the American on my betting slip! Nakashima brings a smoother transition game and more consistent returns, which should wear down Rinderknech’s serve-and-volley offense in the decisive rallies.
My pick: Nakashima, possibly in straight sets!
Montreal Picks Today, Aug. 8: Borges – Darderi (4:00 p.m.)
Montreal is set to be the stage for a true clash of styles: on one side, the Portuguese precision engineer Nuno Borges; on the other, Luciano Darderi—Italy’s hot-headed tennis player.
So far, Borges has swept through the draw like a vacuum cleaner, leaving Tomás Martín Etcheverry in the dust with a 6-2, 6-2 victory. Darderi, on the other hand, had to dig deep against Juncheng Shang before sealing his comeback with a 4-6, 6-1, 6-4 win.
In their head-to-head record, Borges leads 2-1: Although Darderi won their most recent matchup just a few weeks ago in Bastad, Sweden, Borges had soundly defeated the Italian shortly before that in Mallorca.
It’s likely to be a close match this time as well, but I’m still betting on Borges! His shots are flatter than Darderi would like, and since the Portuguese player looks much fresher physically, he’ll take control of the match right from the start.
My prediction: It’ll probably go to a deciding set!
Montreal Picks for Today, August 8: Fils – Norrie (6:30 p.m.)
The French rough diamond Arthur Fils serves with a raw power usually seen only in the heavyweight division.
Norrie, on the other hand, plays tennis like a chess grandmaster with endless stamina—he doesn’t go for the spectacular point, but waits patiently until his opponent bites the net out of frustration.
Fils has blasted his way through the tournament bracket so far without regard for the consequences, while Norrie proved against de Minaur that he literally won’t give up until the very last ball lands out of bounds.
My prediction for today’s match? Fils in three sets. Once the Frenchman gets his forehand whip up to operating temperature, things will really heat up—in the end, even Norrie’s best defensive play won’t be enough against this force of nature.
My pick: Arthur Fils on his way to the final!
Toronto Picks for Today, August 8: Kostyuk – Swiatek (6:00 p.m.)
Here comes the wave of revenge! Back in May, Marta Kostyuk surprisingly held the upper hand in straight sets in the Round of 16 at the French Open, sweeping Swiatek out of the clay-court classic. Now the scene shifts to the fast hard courts of Canada.
Both players have been cruising through the tournament in Toronto so far: Kostyuk most recently humiliated Madison Keys with a crushing 6-3, 6-1 victory. Swiatek is no slouch either and marched into the round of 16 after an equally dominant 6-2, 6-1 victory over Viktorija Golubic.
However, the Polish player has significantly more power on her baseline shots on hard courts and won’t want to let her loss to Kostyuk in Paris go unchallenged. Kostyuk will certainly put up her usual aggressive fight, but Swiatek’s powerful return is likely to tip the scales in the end.
My pick: Swiatek with a strong performance!
Toronto picks for today, August 8: Pegula – Shnaider (6:00 p.m.)
For Diana Shnaider, Jessica Pegula is slowly but surely becoming a real nightmare: Just a few days ago, on August 1 in the Washington semifinals, the two faced off—Pegula came back from an early 2–5 deficit and coldly shut down the Russian.
Although Shnaider brings tremendous speed and a nasty left-handed spin to the table, she regularly hits a wall against the American. Pegula usually hits the ball extremely early, effortlessly neutralizing Shnaider’s shots and repeatedly forcing the 22-year-old onto the defensive.
Pegula has already won all four of their head-to-head matches and should be able to prevail this time as well. The world No. 3 will set the pace and secure her spot in the quarterfinals without dropping many sets.
My pick: Pegula really thrives against this opponent!
Hagen picks for today, August 8: Gentzsch – Piros (3:10 p.m.)
Things are going to get heated in the semifinals of the Platzmann Open in Lüdenscheid on Saturday, August 8, 2026: Local hero Tom Gentzsch takes on third-seeded Hungarian Zsombor Piros.
Home-court ecstasy meets Hungarian clay-court experience! On Friday, Gentzsch cruised through an all-German quarterfinal showdown, knocking Henri Squire out of the tournament with a 6-3, 7-6 victory.
The 22-year-old is currently on a roll on his home clay and brings exactly the emotional intensity needed to get the supportive Lüdenscheid crowd fired up.
Gentzsch will be carried by the home crowd cheering him on at full volume, while Piros is too tactically savvy to be caught off guard. This sets the stage for another marathon match, where subtle nuances and mental toughness in the closing stages will tip the scales.
My pick: Gentzsch inspires with the support with 2:1!
