Tennis Picks Today – Today’s Matches on August 7
Alexander Zverev has unfortunately been eliminated from the Canadian Open, but I still want to follow the tournament in Montreal until the very end! Especially since there are some pretty sweet odds boosts on the remaining matches!
The only thing that’s changed from previous days is the breakdown of my tennis tips for today. While I’ve always had three men’s matches and three women’s matches, the ratio this time is 5 to 1.
Today’s Tennis Picks – August 7, 2026: Showdown in Montreal
You can put each of the six betting picks I have lined up for you to the test using a bookmaker we’ve thoroughly tested!
Things are really heating up at the ATP tournament in Montreal, so I’ve picked out a total of five matches there where I think a value bet is possible.
Of course, among my tennis tips for today, there’s once again a betting idea for the WTA tournament in Toronto. After all, the most interesting match of the day there is undoubtedly Andreeva vs. Fernandez.
While the French Open champion is looking to get in shape for the season’s final Grand Slam, the crowd will be rallying behind her Canadian compatriot!
Montreal Picks for Today, Aug. 7: Tien – Paul (6:30 p.m.)
This is going to be an epic showdown between the two Americans! The 20-year-old Tien advanced to the round of 32 after a hard-fought 6-3, 0-6, 6-3 victory over Gael Monfils, keeping his cool especially in the deciding set.
Tommy Paul defeated Frenchman Valentin Royer 6-4, 7-6 thanks to an incredibly consistent serving performance, winning 74 percent of points on his first serve. Wherever that kid serves, the grass just won’t grow!
In the only head-to-head match between the two Americans to date, Paul narrowly defeated Tiens in three sets, 4-6, 6-4, 6-3, in the semifinals at Delray Beach in February 2026.
While Paul has the more consistent serve, Tien’s quality in long rallies from the baseline suggests another hard-fought match that could go to three sets or feature at least one tiebreak. Still, I see the serving monster edging out a narrow victory in the end!
My pick: Tommy Paul, possibly in three full sets!
Montreal Picks Today, Aug. 7: Ruud – Fonseca (6:30 p.m.)
The generational showdown in the round of 32 at the National Bank Open is set: Clay-court lover Casper Ruud takes on Brazil’s rising star Joao Fonseca!
Casper Ruud didn’t put a foot wrong in his first-round match, humiliating Juan Manuel Cerundolo with a straight-sets victory of 6-1, 6-2. The Norwegian served with brutal efficiency, capitalized on a whopping four break points, and didn’t concede a single break point throughout the entire match.
Joao Fonseca, on the other hand, had to really flex his muscles against Stefanos Tsitsipas: The 19-year-old Brazilian fired 8 aces over the net, capitalized on his chances with clinical precision in the decisive moments, and put the favored Greek in his place with a 7-6, 7-5 victory.
Incidentally, in May 2026, the two played a monumental round-of-16 epic at the French Open on Court Philippe-Chatrier, which Fonseca surprisingly won in four sets (7–5, 7–6, 5–7, 6–2).
Fonseca’s brute force from the baseline will likely prove too much for Ruud once again, which is why the Brazilian is expected to come out on top once more following his French Open upset.
My pick: Fonseca advances to the next round!
Montreal Picks for Today, Aug. 7: Griekspoor – Arnaldi (6:30 p.m.)
In the third round of Montreal, Dutch powerhouse Tallon Griekspoor and Italy’s perennial contender Matteo Arnaldi will cross swords.
Griekspoor has already caused a massive upset, knocking Germany’s number one, Alexander Zverev, out of the tournament 6-7, 6-2, 6-4 after a spectacular battle of attrition, with his powerful serve serving as his “wild card.”
Matteo Arnaldi, on the other hand, also held his own on the Canadian hard court, forcing Hungary’s Fabian Marozsan to his knees in a grueling three-set thriller.
The Italian demonstrated impressive adaptability and, in the deciding set, converted his chances with a cool head to win the grueling baseline rally.
Incidentally, Arnaldi leads their head-to-head record 1–0: The only previous meeting between the two took place in May 2026 at the French Open, where the Italian prevailed on clay after a thrilling four-set battle (6–7, 6–3, 7–6, 6–3) and neutralized Griekspoor’s offensive drive.
Still, shortly after his monumental triumph over Zverev, the Dutchman is riding a wave of confidence—his power on Montreal’s fast hard court should tip the scales in his favor this time.
My pick: The Dutchman will capitalize on the momentum!
Montreal Picks Today, Aug. 7: Atmane – Mensik (4:00 p.m.)
Also in Montreal, French powerhouse Terence Atmane faces Czech tennis rising star Jakub Mensik. Atmane put on a true hard-court fireworks display in the first two rounds!
After a three-set opening-round victory over former British Top 4 player Jack Draper, the French powerhouse swept No. 21 seed Karen Khachanov off the court 6-4, 7-6 (7-3) in the second round, keeping his cool—especially in the tiebreak.
Jakub Mensik also secured his spot in the round of 32 in impressive fashion. The 20-year-old giant showed the nerves of a veteran in his second-round victory over Britain’s Jacob Fearnley and reaffirmed his rock-solid form on hard courts.
All in all, Mensik has the more mature style of play and possesses the return skills needed to neutralize Atman’s barrage of serves in the decisive baseline rallies.
My pick: Mensik should come out on top without any drama!
Montreal Picks Today, Aug. 7: Popyrin – Tirante (4:00 p.m.)
In the round of 32 at the National Bank Open, serve specialist Alexei Popyrin faces Argentina’s dark horse Thiago Agustín Tirante. Popyrin cruised through his opening-round match with extreme confidence, defeating Raphael Collignon 6–4, 6–3 on hard court.
The Australian unleashed 10 aces and converted a staggering 84 percent of his first-serve points into winners.
In the parallel match, however, Thiago Agustín Tirante caused a massive upset, eliminating seventh-seeded U.S. star Taylor Fritz in straight sets, 7-5, 6-3.
The 25-year-old South American put on a first-class serving display, firing 9 aces and winning an incredible 96 percent of points when his first serve landed.
Tirante is certainly riding a wave of euphoria following his victory over Fritz. But Popyrin’s vast hard-court experience and his brutal power on serve are likely to tip the scales in the end in a hard-fought, three-set thriller. It’s going to be a very close match, though!
My prediction: Tirante loses a close match in three long sets!
Toronto Picks for Today, August 7: Andreeva – Fernandez (4:00 p.m.)
The second round of the National Bank Open in Toronto will feature an electrifying showdown between the newly crowned French Open champion Mirra Andreeva and Canada’s fan favorite Leylah Fernandez.
The fifth-seeded Andrejewa is aiming for another thrilling victory on the Canadian hard court, while Fernandez hopes to use the enthusiastic crowd behind her to upset the favorite.
In her opening match, however, Andreeva swept across the court like a whirlwind, teaching Czech serving powerhouse Karolina Pliskova a lesson with a flawless 6-0, 6-2 victory.
The 19-year-old Russian showed no signs of rust, converting a staggering 77 percent of her first serves and capitalizing on six of her eight break points with surgical precision.
Andreeva’s tremendous dominance from the baseline and her return skills are likely to dissect Fernandez’s service games from the start and effectively neutralize the Canadian’s loud home-court advantage.
My pick: Despite the support, Fernandez doesn’t stand a chance!
