Tennis Tips for Today – Today’s Matches on August 3

At the Canadian Open, I’m taking a closer look at three men’s matches and three women’s matches. With Lys and Korpatsch, I have very specific tennis bets in mind for two matches featuring German players.
Tennis Tips Today – August 3, 2026 Preview of Montreal

My betting slip focuses on the stars of the scene who will soon be taking the court at the US Open. In the men’s draw, for example, I’ve set my sights on the Damm vs. Tsitsipas matchup, which might also interest you!
Montreal Tips Today, August 3: Sonego – Griekspoor (5:00 p.m.)
In Montreal, the two will take the court around 5:00 p.m., and for Tallon Griekspoor, this is also a chance for redemption: Ironically, it was at this very same Masters event two years ago that Lorenzo Sonego knocked him out in a nail-biting three-set thriller!
As usual, Sonego will rely on his emotions in this rematch. The Italian pumps himself up after every winner, goes for the forehand hammer, and pushes himself into long tiebreak battles.
Griekspoor certainly has an extremely solid all-around game on hard courts, but historically, the Dutchman has struggled against Sonego’s relentless firepower and emotional intensity.
If Griekspoor doesn’t dominate the Italian early on with his first serve, Sonego will drag the match back into an emotional overtime—and that’s where the world No. 80 usually keeps his cool.
My pick: Sonego in his usual passionate “Rocky” style!
Montreal Picks for Today, Aug. 3: Damm – Tsitsipas (4:00 p.m.)
Martin Damm Jr. is a real giant of a guy: 2.03 meters tall, a left-handed American, and blessed with a serve that regularly strikes the court like a meteorite. When the 22-year-old fires off his serve, there’s hardly anything for his opponent to do from the baseline.
His game is perfectly suited to fast surfaces like those in Montreal, even if he naturally starts to waver defensively in longer rallies. Stefanos Tsitsipas, on the other hand, brings the combined experience of two Grand Slam finals and his former world-class status.
The Greek finally ended his 16-month title drought a few weeks ago with his victory in Gstaad and is showing signs of improving form once again. However, Tsitsipas’s backhand—especially against the vicious spin of a left-hander like Damm—remains his constant weakness on the return.
If Damm can consistently land his first serve, he’ll make life incredibly difficult for Tsitsipas and force the set into a tiebreak. Over the full distance, however, the Greek has more tricks up his sleeve, both in terms of play and tactics.
My pick: The Greek in three!
Montreal Picks Today, Aug. 3: Hurkacz – Giron (4:00 p.m.)
At the Montreal Masters, Hubert Hurkacz faces the tenacious American Marcos Giron—and if you look at their head-to-head record, the Pole has been nothing short of a nightmare for Giron here.
In their head-to-head record, Hurkacz leads clearly and decisively, 4–0. Whether on grass, clay, or hard courts in Tokyo—Giron has consistently come up short against the Polish player’s serve.
“Hubi” serves ace after ace from what feels like three meters up and gives his opponents absolutely nothing on fast hard courts.
In baseline rallies, he looks relaxed because he knows his service games will come his way almost effortlessly.
Giron may be the classic endurance player who fights his way into every match and scrapes balls out of the most impossible corners, but against Hurkacz, he’s literally running into a wall.
The American simply can’t get a foothold on the return and has to constantly push himself to the limit on his own serve just to stay in the match.
My pick: Hurkacz’s serve dictates the action!
Toronto picks for today, Aug. 3: Marino – Sönmez (4:00 p.m.)
Marino brings classic power tennis to the court: The Canadian hits with everything she’s got, serves with blistering power, and looks for the shortest possible route to the point on the fast home hard courts.
In front of her home crowd, she can get into a real groove. The problem: If her first serve isn’t landing at a high rate or if she gets caught in long rallies, her error rate skyrockets.
Zeynep Sönmez is lying in wait to exploit precisely this weakness. The Turkish player is an extremely agile and tenacious baseline player who works tirelessly on defense like a lioness and scrapes every ball back over the net.
Sönmez doesn’t have Marino’s raw power, but she can absorb the Canadian’s pace with clever angled shots and constantly force her to overhit.
If Marino’s serve is on point in the first set, it’ll be an extremely close match for Sönmez. However, as soon as the Turkish player drags the match into grueling rallies, the pendulum swings in favor of her physicality. This smells like a heated battle of attrition in front of a boisterous crowd!
My prediction: At least one tiebreak is definitely on the cards!
Toronto Picks Today, Aug. 3: Udvardy – Lys (4:00 p.m.)
In Toronto, two clay-court lovers—Panna Udvardy and German hopeful Eva Lys—will face off on Canadian hard courts. Eva Lys has the potential to quickly set the pace here.
The Hamburg native plays incredibly fast, flat baseline tennis and loves to take the ball’s speed head-on and aim for the corners.
On hard court, this flat trajectory is a real weapon—once she finds her rhythm, she barely gives her opponents a chance to catch their breath.
Panna Udvardy, on the other hand, puts a lot of topspin on her shots and actually feels most comfortable in long clay-court rallies. On the fast surface in Toronto, however, the Hungarian often faces the problem that her high spin simply loses its effectiveness.
In a head-to-head matchup, the scores are even, but the court conditions in Canada clearly play into Lys’s favor. If the German keeps her error rate low and puts Udvardy under pressure right away, the Hungarian will quickly run out of options.
My pick: Lys handles the surface a bit better!
Toronto Picks for Today, August 3: Zarazua – Korpatsch (4:00 p.m.)
Tamara Korpatsch is coming in with serious momentum: The Hamburg native just dominated her home tournament in Hamburg a few days ago and took home the title. She’s in top form, and her confidence is through the roof!
The big challenge: the drastic change in court surface. Korpatsch is coming straight from European clay to the fast Canadian hard court—her timing has to be spot-on right away, or she’ll lose the first set in a flash.
Renata Zarazúa, on the other hand, is the classic Mexican fighter from the baseline. While the Mexican isn’t the tallest player on the court, she makes up for it with incredible footwork, hard-earned angles, and ice-cold tenacity.
But if Korpatsch can hit her flat shots cleanly on hard court and her legs are fresh after the grueling days in Hamburg, she’ll have the greater firepower. If Zarazúa drags the match out, though, it’ll be a real test of willpower for Korpatsch.
My prediction: Pure drama!
