French Open Today – Matches on May 29
A new era begins at the French Open today: The post-Sinner era has officially begun in Paris! The Italian, favored by all German bookmakers, was surprisingly eliminated yesterday, completely throwing all predictions into disarray.
I’ve placed a total of five tennis bets on selected third-round matches, taking a particularly close look at the Zverev vs. Halys match, of course. After all, the German could soon be celebrating his very first Grand Slam title!

Anyone tuning in to the French Open today who completely missed yesterday’s action has been spared quite a bit of drama. Because a weakened Jannik Sinner provided images that will be making the rounds around the world for days to come!
Of course, I took a look at the betting markets surrounding Alexander Zverev’s match, as he’s now considered the top favorite to win the tournament by all sportsbook providers.
However, for my French Open bets, I also took a closer look at Michelsen vs. Jodar. Because while the Spaniard isn’t quite as good as his compatriot Alcaraz, he’s still a potential “dark horse” who’s getting far too little attention.

French Open today, May 29: Halys – Zverev
The upcoming third-round match on Court Philippe-Chatrier pits the German title favorite against a boisterous crowd and a local hero with a powerful serve.
Zverev has been in top form in Paris so far, storming through the first two rounds without dropping a set.
While Halys is a serious opponent who can put serious spin on the ball, that won’t be enough. Especially now that the world No. 3 knows he can win his first Grand Slam title, he’ll be motivated to the tips of his hair!
My expert tip: Zverev won’t let anything slip by
French Open today, May 29: Borges – Rublev
The third-round match on the Paris clay pits the extremely unpredictable Russian against a real mental test.
Rublev played with his usual intensity in the early rounds, but also revealed his typical bouts of deep frustration in the sets he lost to qualifiers.
Since Borges is a tactically savvy endurance player who punishes mistakes mercilessly, Rublev will struggle to maintain total control over the full match without making errors.
My expert tip: Rublev will have moments of weakness
French Open today, May 29: Tirante – Carreno Busta
Argentine rising star Tirante benefits from the extensive match experience he gained on this surface this spring and also enters the match completely fresh physically.
On the other side is the extremely experienced Spaniard Carreno Busta, who, despite his long injury-plagued period, has proven in the early rounds that his playing class and excellent tactical understanding at Grand Slam level are still very much intact!
This will be a close match, no question, but I see Carreno Busta winning at least two sets here.
My expert tip: Could go to five sets
French Open today, May 29: De Minaur – Mensik
While the fast-footed Australian de Minaur has spent less than two hours on the court so far thanks to a walkover in the second round, Mensik had to battle through an exhausting five-set match lasting 4 hours and 40 minutes in the Parisian heat.
In a head-to-head matchup, de Minaur is the Czech’s absolute nemesis and will mercilessly exploit his emerging fatigue with his extremely intense defensive play. This could therefore turn into a very quick and one-sided affair.
My expert tip: The Czech will run out of steam early
French Open today, May 29: Michelsen – Jodar
The upcoming third-round match on Simonne-Mathieu Court puts Spanish rising star Jodar back in the spotlight.
Jodar, who is having a sensational clay-court season, had to go the distance in four sets against the tenacious Australian Duckworth in the second round, showing minor physical fluctuations at times.
His American opponent Michelsen is considered an awkward, extremely fit pro who can force error-free baseline rallies, but the Spaniard should ultimately still be able to qualify for the fourth round without any drama. He’s simply too good for that!
My expert tip: Jodar won’t drop more than one set
