VfB Stuttgart – Bayern Munich

Our Stuttgart – Bayern betting tip is: Bayern win – 1.64 odds

  • Bayern Munich are now unbeaten in nine league games and have only drawn once during this period
  • The record champions come into this game with a lot of confidence after their 4: 0 win over Frankfurt, the record champions come into this game with an incredible amount of confidence
  • In the first half of the season, Munich won 4-0 against VfB

On Friday evening, VfB Stuttgart welcome league leaders FC Bayern Munich to the MHPArena. While Bayern continue to reign supreme at the top of the table after their impressive 4-0 win over Frankfurt, Stuttgart are fighting to stay in touch with the international places in seventh place.

Just two points separate the Swabians from sixth-placed RB Leipzig – so their Champions League hopes are still alive, even if their recent form leaves something to be desired with just one point from the 1-1 draw in Hoffenheim. Bayern come to Stuttgart with a broad chest and an eight-point lead over their closest rivals Leverkusen.

Coach Vincent Kompany seems to have found his team after initial difficulties, as the clear victory against Frankfurt shows. It will be interesting to see whether Joshua Kimmich will be fit in time after his new calf ligament injury. After four defeats in their last six league games, Hoeneß’ side will have to improve if they want to stand up to Bayern. After all, Stuttgart have an in-form attacker in their ranks in Nick Woltemade, who scored his eleventh goal of the season in Hoffenheim. Find out which team has the edge here in our Stuttgart – Bayern betting tip.

Stuttgart Form & Balance Check

VfB Stuttgart are currently going through a difficult phase, which was also reflected in their recent 1-1 draw against Hoffenheim. After a promising start to the season, Sebastian Hoeneß’ team recently suffered four defeats in six games and slipped to 7th place in the table. Particularly noticeable: Although the Swabians have scored reliably – in the last five games, they have always scored at least one goal of their own – they are vulnerable defensively.

The bright spot is the strong performance of Nick Woltemade, who underlined his excellent form with his 11th goal of the season against Hoffenheim. Maximilian Mittelstädt and Angelo Stiller also impressed with their passing accuracy, giving Stuttgart’s build-up play stability. However, the slip-up against direct rivals VfL Wolfsburg (1:2) is particularly painful in the battle for the international places.

Long breath

It is interesting to note that the team scores its goals almost exclusively in the second half – VfB regularly struggles in the first 45 minutes. The gap to the Europa League place is only two points, which underlines the team’s ambitions. Former VfB star Hansi Müller even sees the Champions League as a realistic goal, even if current form does not necessarily support this assessment.

Stuttgart facts & analysis
  • Seventh in the table
  • One win from the last five league games
  • Last BL game 1: 1 against Hoffenheim

VfB are likely to field their usual 4-2-2-2 system again this time, with some interesting personnel options on the horizon.

Up front, the combination of Undav and the in-form Woltemade – who scored against Hoffenheim recently – could provide goalscoring threat. Führich and Leweling are likely to occupy the attacking wing positions.

In defense, there are indications that Stergiou could form the central defense together with Chabot, while Mittelstädt and Jeltsch are likely to take up the full-back positions. In defensive midfield, Stiller and Karazor will probably stabilize the center.

Nübel will in all likelihood stand between the posts. However, this line-up is not yet set in stone – coach Hoeneß could well have a surprise or two up his sleeve.

Bayern Form & Bilanz Check

Bayern Munich are currently in impressive form and recently underlined their dominance with an impressive 4-0 win over Eintracht Frankfurt. The Munich side, who are eight points clear of their closest rivals Leverkusen at the top of the table, impressed in the second half in particular with their powerful attacking soccer. Michael Olise, Hiroki Ito, Jamal Musiala and substitute Serge Gnabry ensured a well-deserved victory.

Rising form?

The development of the last few weeks is particularly interesting: While the team still had problems finding its playing line in the Champions League against Celtic (1:1) and in the Bundesliga top match at Leverkusen (0:0), it now seems to have found its old strength again. The team has remained unbeaten in its last five games, conceding hardly any goals and showing remarkable efficiency in front of goal, especially in the second half.

The only fly in the ointment is the injury concern surrounding Joshua Kimmich, who had to be substituted against Frankfurt. However, one may wonder whether this will be of any consequence given the broad quality of the squad – especially as the team has shown convincing performances recently even without its midfield strategist.

Bayern facts & analysis
  • Top of the table
  • Unbeaten in nine league games
  • Last BL game 4: 0 against Frankfurt

Bayern are likely to line up in their usual 4-2-3-1 system in their next match. After the convincing 4-0 win against Frankfurt, it is to be expected that the successful offense around Musiala, who showed a strong performance, will be maintained.

In midfield, the new duo of Palhinha and Pavlović could provide defensive stability, while Olise and Sané are likely to occupy the wings. The defense around Dier and Kim seems set, with Laimer likely to help out at right-back again.

It will be interesting to see whether Müller is back in the starting eleven after his good performance. The bench is strong with Davies, Coman and the recovered Gnabry, which gives coach Kompany tactical flexibility.

Stuttgart – Bayern head-to-head & stats

In the last five meetings between VfB Stuttgart and Bayern Munich, Bayern have a clear advantage with three wins, one draw and one defeat for Stuttgart.

The most recent meeting in October 2024 ended in a clear 4-0 victory for Munich. Before that, however, VfB managed a remarkable 3-1 home win in May 2024. Bayern won 3-0 in December 2023 and Munich narrowly won 2-1 in Stuttgart in March 2023. The draw in September 2022 (2-2) completes the most recent record.

The goal spectacle in these matches is striking – at least three goals were scored in all five games. Bayern are on an impressive run, scoring at least twice in each of these matches. The distribution of goals is also interesting: while the first half is usually more subdued, more goals are regularly scored after the break.

Stuttgart have particular problems in the early stages – in four of their last five matches, they have conceded at least one goal before the break. You might think that the Swabians always need a little time to get into the game against Bayern
