RB Leipzig – Bayern Munich
The 6th matchday in the Bundesliga has plenty of exciting games in store for German football fans this time around. The top match on Saturday evening really lives up to its name this week. At 6:30 p.m., Saxony’s largest city will host the duel that we already witnessed in this year’s Supercup. Whether there will be a similar outcome this week, you can find out in our Leipzig vs Bayern tip.
On paper, the currently best German teams will meet in Saxony on Saturday. Since the summer of 2021, all seven national titles have been won by either FC Bayern, with two championships and just as many Super Cup titles, or RB Leipzig, with two DFB Cup victories and a Super Cup triumph.
In the current table, however, the two teams do not quite hold that status. Bayern, however, are back at the top of the league as expected and also underpinned this status the previous week with an impressive 7:0 over Bochum. The Saxons are also right up there, but are only fourth in the table after twelve points from five games.

Leipzig Form & Balance Check
RB Leipzig are once again inspiring fans with fast attacking football. After winning the Cup in the previous season, RasenBallsport also won the Supercup at the start of this season, with a commanding 3-0 victory over their upcoming opponents from Munich. Because of this match, RB had to play in the cup during the week, where they won 3:2 against Wiesbaden from the 2nd Bundesliga.
The first match in the Bundesliga, however, was anything but ideal for coach Marco Rose’s team. In Leverkusen, RasenBallsport lost the league opener with 2:3. After that, however, Leipzig found its way better and better and won the next five games in a row. This was also the case the previous week, when the Saxons won 1-0 at Gladbach.
Power football à la Leipzig
Once again, the Saxons have plenty of pace and technical ability on the offensive this season. However, RB is acting much more effectively in the new season so far than in previous seasons.
Leipzig have the most efficient completion rate in the Bundesliga, with an impressive +6.7, and although their xG value is only 7.3, the Saxons have already scored 14 goals. A big point in the offensive game is also precise crosses. It is therefore not surprising that David Raum has the most crosses in the entire league with 20 so far.

Bayern form & balance check
FC Bayern became champions for the eleventh time in a row in pre-season, albeit somewhat fortunately, and would love to repeat that feat for the twelfth time next May. And so far, the record champions seem to be well on their way.
Bayern are at the top of the table after five games and are even unbeaten in the league so far. The only draw of the season so far came against Leverkusen, who finished second on points. In the previous week, however, the FCB did a lot for its goal ratio when the record champions won 7:0 against Bochum. Then, during the week, there was a commanding 4:0 in the DFB Cup against Münster.
Fallen defence
In the pre-season, FCB not only provided the best offence in the league, but also had the strongest defence together with Union Berlin. This season, the record champions are only second in this statistic, behind Eintracht Frankfurt with only three goals conceded, but their record of four goals conceded from five games is quite respectable.
The reason for this is also a surplus of top-class central defenders. Matthijs de Ligt, Dayot Upamecano and Min-jea Kim would probably be absolute regulars at any other Bundesliga club. During the week, however, all three were absent from the cup win in Münster due to injury, leaving Noussair Mazraoui and Leon Goretzka to fill those positions. Against Leipzig, however, all three regular players will presumably be fit again.
Bayern facts & analysis
- Still without defeat in the league
- Best offence and defence in the league
- Leading the league
Predicted lineup – last update on September 28, 2023
Leipzig will once again line up in a 4-4-2 system, with the central midfielders positioned a little more reservedly. However, the loss of Olmo is particularly unfortunate for the team. Goalkeeper Gulácsi will probably return to the bench after his comeback in the cup.
FC Bayern will try a 4-2-3-1 again on the other side of the field. Serge Gnabry, however, will be missing for Bayern in the near future with a forearm fracture. The centre-backs, who have been ailing recently, are expected to be fit again at the weekend, though. Harry Kane will now be looking to score his first goal in his second game with FCB against RB in the centre of attack.
Leipzig – Bayern direct comparison & stats
In the 18 duels between the two sides so far, RB Leipzig have recorded just three wins against Bayern. The 2019 DFB Cup final, which Bayern won 3-0, remains particularly etched in fans’ memories. In the last Super Cup, however, RasenBallsport won 3-0 in Munich.
- Duell of 1st place against 4th place
- Bayern have not won any of their last three games against Leipzig
- When Bayern lead 1-0 in away games, they win 78% of them.
