Alcaraz – Zverev tip US Open 07/09/2023

US Open in New York, quarterfinals, Thursday, 07/09/2023

“I can say that I’m back,” were Alexander Zverev’s words after his five-set marathon against Jannik Sinner. For the German, it was the second win against a top-10 player after his serious injury.

In the quarterfinals of the US Open, he now has to face the world number one in the night from Wednesday to Thursday. In the direct comparison he leads against Carlos Alcaraz. In my Alcaraz Zverev tip I give an overview of the best odds.

Zverev was on court for almost five hours in the round of 16! It was the longest US Open match ever for the Hamburg native. In the end, he prevailed over Sinner 6-4, 3-6, 6-2, 4-6, 6-3.

In doing so, he defeated one of the extended favorites who won the Toronto Masters just a few weeks ago. As far as the freshness factor is concerned, however, he is definitely at a disadvantage against Alcaraz.

Zverev has also been on court for more than three sets against Grigor Dimitrov (6-7, 7-6, 6-1, 6-1) and Daniel Altmaier (7-6, 3-6, 6-4, 6-3).

The Spaniard has considerably less playing time in his bones. Dominik Koepfer had to retire in the second set of the first round due to injury.

Lloyd Harris and Matteo Arnaldi had to pack their tennis bags after three sets. Only Daniel Evans was able to annoy the 20-year-old in the meantime and win one set.

At 1.22 odds, Interwetten sees Alcaraz clearly ahead against Zverev (4.20). Even for a single set win, sports betting fans get 1.60 odds at Bet3000.

The bet is definitely worth considering. Alcaraz had no problems against the big underdog Arnaldi, but Harris and Evans played themselves a total of 17 break chances.

Partially shaky service games are one of the few weaknesses of the world’s number one. Definitely a chance for Zverev, who is one of the world’s best players defensively.

He took six service games from Sinner and had a total of 14 opportunities. Dimitrov had to fight 16 break chances, Altmaier even 26.

Zverev knows how to win sets against Alcaraz. He is 3:2 in direct comparison. On hard court, he is still unbeaten after quick, smooth wins.

On clay, Zverev lost out to the high-flyer twice in Madrid, but on the red clay he managed to beat him one match before his serious injury at the French Open.

The two stars only played out a tiebreak in one set. Due to the return strength of both players, I can imagine that no set will go the full length this time either.

Bet365 beckons with 2.00 odds for under 0.5 tiebreaks. For a combo ticket, Bet-at-home’s under 10.5 games in first set bet (1.34) is a good option.

My Alcaraz Zverev Tip

Zverev has built up a lot of confidence against Sinner. Overall, he spent significantly more hours on court than Alcaraz in recent matches. Especially the marathon match against Sinner took energy.

Alongside Alcaraz, however, the 26-year-old is also one of the fittest players on the tour. He will attack especially in the first sets.

The Spaniard often stumbled in his service games, while Zverev had 56 break chances in the last three rounds alone. I definitely think he can win the set against Alcaraz.

My Alcaraz Zverev tip: Zverev wins a set!
