Date & Start Time: When is the 2023 Canada GP?
After the Barcelona Grand Prix, the Formula 1 squad now moves towards North America. The next Formula 1 race is the Canadian GP in Montreal.
The Formula 1 GP of Montreal will take place on 18 June 2023 from 20:00. The Grand Prix will be held at the legendary Circuit Gilles-Villeneuve.
The race weekend will start on Friday with the first two free practice sessions. Due to the time difference of six hours plus, European Formula 1 fans will have to adjust to different starting times.
The first free practice will take place at 18:30 German time, the second at 23:00. On Saturday, the third free practice session will start at 18:30 CEST, before the Canada GP schedule provides for qualifying in the evening from 22:00.
Finally, the Montreal Grand Prix will take place on Sunday, 18 June 2023. Start time for the race is at 20:00 German time.

Formula 1 Montreal GP broadcast on TV and stream
In Germany, all races of this year’s Formula 1 season will be broadcast live in their entirety on Sky.
The pay-TV channel owns the exclusive broadcasting rights and therefore does not miss any session. Here you can watch the entire Spanish Grand Prix, including practice and qualifying, live on Sky Sport F1.
The Montreal GP broadcast will be shown by Sky on Sunday on the Sky Sport F1 channel. Broadcasting starts at 18:30 German time.
In the 90 minutes until the start of the Canadian Grand Prix at 20:00 there will be background reports, interviews and analyses. The presenter will be Peter Hardenacke on site in Barcelona, Sandra Baumgartner will conduct the interviews in the pit lane.
The commentator at the Spanish Grand Prix is Sascha Roos. He will be supported by the experts Ralf Schumacher and Timo Glock.
Who will be showing the Canadian Grand Prix in Austria?
Once again, there are different options in Austria to watch the broadcast of the 2023 Formula 1 races.
The public broadcaster ORF and the private broadcaster Servus TV share the broadcasting rights in 2023. The broadcast of the 2023 Canadian GP will be available on free TV on Servus TV at the weekend.
In addition, there is also Sky as an alternative in Austria, where, as in Germany, the complete Formula 1 coverage can be seen. Sky Sport F1 is also only available here on pay-TV.
The track of the Montreal GP
The Formula 1 GP of Canada is run on the Circuit Gilles-Villeneuve. Named after the former Canadian Formula 1 driver who was killed in an accident in 1982.
The circuit is located on Île Notre-Dame, an artificial island in the Saint Lawrence River. When there are no races, parts of the track are open to normal traffic.
The location on the elongated island has created a fast race course with long straights. The track has a length of 4.361 km and is driven clockwise.
Since its debut in 1978, the track layout has hardly been changed. Major changes were the relocation of the start-finish line and the pit lane from the area behind the hairpin “Épingle des Stands” to behind the end of the straight “Droit du Casino” in 1987.

What makes the Montreal Formula 1 Canadian GP so special?
The track has been notorious since 1999 for the “Wall of Champions” at the end of the final chicane before the start and finish, where during the 1999 race the three F1 world champions Damon Hill, Michael Schumacher and Jacques Villeneuve had to end the race prematurely due to a collision.

The Montreal GP of 2011 was the longest (4:04:39.537 h) and also the slowest (average speed 74.864 km/h) race in Formula One history. The reason was heavy rainfall and several accidents, which led to a total of 30 safety car laps (also a record).
Who is the favourite for the 2023 Canadian Grand Prix?
Who will win the Canadian Grand Prix in 2023?
Based on how the season has gone so far, the winner can really only be in the Red Bull and be either Max Verstappen or Sergio Perez.
Verstappen, who won the Montreal GP last year, has been the big dominator so far this season and leads the drivers’ championship. Perez, however, has always been on hand when the team leader has been weak.
Will it be another Red Bull victory or can the competition win this time?
The bookmakers do not see a major threat to F1’s top duo. Behind the top duo, however, Lewis Hamilton is given the best chance of winning.
After Mercedes took second (Hamilton) and third (Russell) in Barcelona, it will be interesting to see if they can take the next step forward at the Canadian GP.
Fernando Alonso is given good chances for the podium in the Canadian GP forecast of the bookmakers – despite 7th place at the Barcelona Grand Prix a fortnight ago. The two Ferraris, on the other hand, will only come to the Montreal Grand Prix as blatant outsiders.
