Dortmund Form & Balance Check
Until last weekend, Dortmund were one of the few teams in German football who had yet to lose in 2023. But then there was the, on balance, rather strange performance in Munich. In the German classic, BVB, despite leading the table, showed little courage and, above all, little accent in the game forward. The 2:4 score was therefore completely justified.
During the week, there was the cup match in Leipzig and BVB showed a first half against the Red Bulls that really surprised everyone. RB literally rolled over the Black and Yellows, BVB couldn’t find a way into a duel and in the end Dortmund could count themselves lucky that they only went into the break with a 0:1 score. After 90 minutes, the result was a 0:2 defeat and the Terzic team lost its second title of the season.
With home strength to the title?
There are still eight matchdays to go for Dortmund this season and unlike in recent years, the first league title in eleven years is still possible. BVB is only two points behind FC Bayern and if we take a closer look at the remaining games, Dortmund only has to play three more away games. With five home games under their belt, anything is still possible for the Black and Yellows.
With 31 home points, BVB shares first place in the home table with Bayern and their upcoming opponents from Berlin. With regard to the match on Saturday, more danger is needed, especially in the final third. Both against Bayern and in Leipzig during the week, the offensive was clearly too little.
Dortmund facts & analysis
– Currently in 2nd place
– Already 31 home points scored
– 2 defeats in a row
Union Form & Balance Check
Despite their elimination in the cup, the Eisernen from Berlin can still be said to be having a terrific season. The Berliners currently have 51 points on their account and have never had so many at this point. Union has gone four league games without defeat and the Eisern hope that this streak will continue against Dortmund. However, the chances of a win at BVB are anything but good.
Union has never won at Signal-Iduna Park. So far, Dortmund has suffered three defeats in the league and twice Union has been eliminated in the DFB Cup. Nevertheless, there should be a little hope when looking at the away record. The 20 points mean sixth place in the away table.
The Jokers are getting it right
The thing about Berlin is that it’s not exactly easy for coach Urs Fischer to put together a top eleven. The Eisern have several players in almost every position who would be eligible. Especially in attack, coach Fischer is usually spoilt for choice. At the moment, it often comes down to the duo of Becker and Behrens.
Michel and Jordan often come off the bench. When it comes to wild card goals, the Berliners are hardly fooled this season. The Eisernen have already scored nine goals through substitutes. Only Dortmund and Wolfsburg have scored more often, with eleven goals.
Union facts & analysis
– No defeat for 4 games.
– Won last two league games
– Eliminated in cup against Frankfurt
Predicted line-up – last update on 6 April 2023
BVB will only have one change compared to the defeat in the cup. Malen has to go back on the bench and Haller, who has been struggling lately, moves into the forward line in her place. Terzic will again play in a 4-5-1. Reus and Brandt will be on the outside. For the injured Schlotterbeck, Hummels will again have to play alongside Süle.
The Berliners will play a 3-5-2. Coach Urs Fischer will once again rely on the one-two of Behrens and Becker. Juranovic will again be preferred to captain Trimmel. Rousillon will again play on the left side.
