Brentford FC – West Ham United
This weekend the ball rests in the Premier League and yet there is again exciting football on the island. The 3rd round of the oldest cup competition, the FA Cup, is on the agenda. Already in this round there will be one or the other duel between two teams from the Premier League. Among others, Brentford FC and the Hammers of West Ham will face each other in a direct duel on Saturday. Find out who could come out on top in our Brentford – West Ham tip.
If we look at the current form of these two teams in the league, then the roles should be quite clear. Brentford are currently in a very strong ninth place with 26 points. During the week, there was even a victory over the great FC Liverpool. The Londoners won 3:1 against the Reds. West Ham, on the other hand, is in a much worse position. The Hammers are playing a weak season and the team of coach David Moyes is currently only in 18th place. Four of the last five games were lost.

Brentford Form & Balance Check
Apart from the two top teams Arsenal and Newcastle, “The Bees” from Brentford are without any question one of the big surprises in this Premier League season. In recent weeks and months, coach Thomas Frank’s team has emerged as a veritable terror of the favourites. Shortly before the World Cup in Qatar, reigning champions Man City were beaten, before Jürgen Klopp’s Reds were beaten a few days ago.
The recipe of FC Brentford is as simple as it is outstanding. At the back they are usually bombproof and in attack they show themselves merciless. A look at the bare figures underlines this thesis. Brentford have not lost in six games. When we consider that teams like Man City, Tottenham and also Liverpool were there, that is a strong performance.
Ivan Toney is not missing so far
For months, everything at Brentford has risen and fallen on the performances of Ivan Toney. The 26-year-old Englishman has been the driving force of the “Bees” for years and this season he is once again convincing. In the league he already has twelve goals and three assists. It’s just a shame that he might have suffered a serious injury a few days ago in the 2-0 win against the upcoming opponents West Ham.
An exact diagnosis is still pending and despite his absence against Liverpool FC, Brentford showed no mercy against the Reds. Even though their passing accuracy of 49% left a lot to be desired, Brentford took advantage of LFC’s mistakes.
Brentford facts & analysis
– Currently 9th in the table.
– Last win 3:1 against Liverpool
– 6 games in a row not lost
West Ham Form & Balance Check
After two outstanding seasons in a row last time out, in which the Hammers finished sixth and seventh respectively, virtually nothing is going right this year. The Londoners even have to be careful not to go down to the Championship. The lead over a relegation place is only one goal anyway. The last few weeks have made it clear what is wrong with West Ham. The Achilles’ heel is clearly the attack. The 15 goals after 18 matchdays is a frightening record. It is telling that the top scorer, in this case Said Benrahma, has only scored three goals.
Will there be a sell-out in the summer?
West Ham United are walking a very fine line. It should be obvious to everyone that the season’s goals will no longer be achieved. And that is exactly where the problem lies. Players like Paqueta or Rice can only be kept if West Ham at least play internationally. The Londoners are miles away from that at the moment and there is little hope of improvement.
It is also an open question how long David Moyes will be able to hold on. The smart Scot is currently only living off the strong performances of the last few years. If there is an FA Cup exit next weekend, then his personnel will come further into focus.
West Ham facts & analysis
– Lost 4 of their last 5 games.
– Last played 2:2 against Leeds
– Only 17th
Predicted line-up – last updated on 5 January 2023
Hosts Brentford FC will not make any changes from their sensational 3-1 win over Liverpool FC. Coach Thomas Frank will once again field a 3-5-2. Above all, it will be the double-headers Mbeumo and Wissa that will count again. Vitaly Janelt will also start in central midfield again. Upcoming opponents West Ham are likely to play with a 3-4-2-1 again, and coach David Moyes will appeal to the same eleven that earned a 2-2 draw against Leeds last time out. Scamacca will again play as the lone front man up front. Benrahma and Bowen will support the Italian.
