Liverpool FC – Leicester City
Immediately after the 2022 World Cup, the island is already busy kicking the ball again. Liverpool Form & Balance Check
The Reds will be looking to take the next three points in their quest to catch up against Leicester on Friday night. Jürgen Klopp’s team completely fluffed their start to the season, only managing two wins in their first seven games. Since then, the team has recovered, but is still far from playing at the consistent level of recent years. However, due to the departure of Sadio Mané and the resulting changes in the attack, it was not to be expected that the Reds would complete the change without initial difficulties.
Form speaks for the Reds
Never the less, all LFC supporters can look forward to 2023 with confidence. Both the last games before and the first games after the World Cup break give hope for better times. Most recently, Liverpool won three games in a row for the first time this season, 3-1 at Aston Villa last Monday. The games are becoming more confident, newcomers such as Darwin Nunez are finding their feet more and more, and the medical cabinet will soon be thinning out as well. Both Diogo Jota and Luis Díaz should be available again in early 2023 after their long injury breaks.

– Last win 3:1 against Aston Villa
– Won 3 league games in a row
Leicester form & balance check
The Foxes have had an extremely turbulent first half of the season. After a disastrous start to the season and just one point from their first seven games, it initially looked as though Leicester would lurch towards relegation this season. But the managers remained calm, stuck with coach Brendan Rodgers and were rewarded with a turnaround in the weeks that followed. His side picked up a strong 16 points from their last nine games, which helped them climb to 13th place in the table.
Only the top teams too strong
A look at the last few weeks will be encouraging for the rest of the season. Before the World Cup break, Leicester won four of their five matches without conceding a single goal, with only reigning champions Manchester City narrowly beaten by the Foxes in that period. Their first opponent after the World Cup in Qatar was also out of their league. Leicester lost 3-0 to current league runners-up Newcastle United last Monday, and now face Liverpool on Friday, before the following opponents (Fulham, Nottingham, Brighton and Aston Villa) are again very beatable.
Leicester facts & analysis
– 17 points from 16 games
– Last lost 0:3 against Newcastle
– Won 4 of last 6 games – only failed to win against Man City and Newcastle
Predicted line-up – last updated on 29 December 2022
The Reds need every point in the battle for the top flight and will once again field their top eleven. Naby Keita, Harvey Elliott and Fabio Carvalho are the first options off the bench. Injury concerns remain high, with seven potential regulars currently missing.
Leicester also have some personnel problems. With James Justin, Ricardo Pereira, Jonny Evans, James Maddison, Dennis Praet and Ryan Bertrand, six important players are currently absent. Jamie Vardy, Kelechi Iheanacho and Wilfred Ndidi are the first alternatives to our predicted starting eleven.
