Borussia Dortmund vs. VfL Bochum
The weekend is upon us and the Bundesliga is entering its 13th round. Only three matchdays are left in the league before the World Cup starts in Qatar. On Saturday afternoon, the match between Borussia Dortmund and VfL Bochum, among others, is scheduled. While Dortmund finds itself in fourth place in the table, Bochum is in second-to-last position. Both stadiums are only 15 kilometres apart, so the match is a real local derby.
BVB won the last two Bundesliga games, albeit not necessarily convincingly. In the 2:1 victory in Frankfurt, Borussia had a lot of luck. The Frankfurt team missed many top-class chances and was not awarded a clear penalty. In the Champions League, the Black and Yellows only played 1-1 against FC Copenhagen on Wednesday. However, their entry into the round of 16 was already certain before the match.
Bochum, on the other hand, lost clearly 4:0 against VfL Wolfsburg last weekend. After the acclaimed 2:1 victory against leaders Union Berlin, the bottom team was brought back down to earth. Find out whether VfL can spring another surprise this weekend in our Dortmund vs Bochum betting tips.

Dortmund Form & Balance Check
Borussia just can’t seem to get continuity into their game this season. Edin Terzić’s team has never won more than two games in a row in the Bundesliga this season. Last season, Dortmund had five more points on their account at the same time. They have won their last two Bundesliga games, but the win against Frankfurt on the last matchday was extremely fortunate.
The offence is BVB’s problem child
In contrast to last year, the defence is much more stable. The newcomers Süle and Schlotterbeck are slowly settling in. And also Mats Hummels, who wobbled more often last season, has found his way back to old strength this season. The absences of Guerreiro and Meunier nevertheless hurt the Black-Yellows a lot.
However, Borussia’s offensive just can’t find its way into the game this year. The departure of Erling Haaland and the loss of Sebastian Haller have left a big hole in Borussia’s attack. New signing Modeste has not yet managed to fill the gap. The top scorer this season is the only 17-year-old Youssoufa Moukoko with four goals. Haaland already had nine goals to his name after twelve matchdays last season and that despite being out injured for six games.
Dortmund facts & analysis
– Currently in 4th place in the Bundesliga table.
– 10 goals less on the account than last season at this time
– In the last 16 of the Champions League
Bochum Form & Balance Check
VfL Bochum’s start to the season has been disastrous. The men from Castroper Straße lost the first six games of the season. For this reason, Thomas Reis, who is now coach at Schalke 04, had to take his hat off on 12 September. Under the new coach Thomas Letsch, things are already going much better for the Bochum team. The VfL has picked up six points from five games, including beating league leaders Union Berlin. Last weekend, however, they were without a chance and lost 4-0 at VfL Wolfsburg. This means that Bochum have still not picked up a single point away from home.
The VfL’s holey defence
The Bochum side have the weakest defence in the entire Bundesliga. VfL have already conceded 32 goals this season. The departures in central defence of Maxim Leitsch and Armel Bella-Kotchap could not be compensated. The two newcomers Dominique Heintz and Ivan Ordets have not shown the same quality so far.
The Bochum attack is also lacking. Together with Schalke 04, they have the weakest offensive. Newcomer Philipp Hofmann and Simon Zoller have each scored three goals for Bochum this season. Otherwise, however, no Bochum player has scored more than one goal this season.
Bochum facts & analysis
– Weakest defence and offence in the league.
– They have yet to pick up a point away from home
– Only one point ahead of the bottom of the league
Predicted line-up – last update on 3 November 2022
Edin Terzić will once again send his team onto the field with a 4-2-3-1 formation. Moukuku will probably get preference over Modeste again. Meunier, Morey, Dahoud, Bynoe-Gittens and Haller will be missing for BVB, Guerreiro could return. Reus will probably not be available to the Dortmund team yet either. Whether Kobel and Hummels can play is also still questionable.
VfL Bochum will approach the match with a 4-3-3. The team’s goal is to defend compactly. The quick Osei-Tutu and Antwi-Adjej should bring crosses to Hofmann. Bochum will be without Asano, Goralski, Masovic and Grave.
