Man United Form & Balance Check
Who would have thought Manchester United would bounce back so quickly after their disastrous start to the season. The Red Devils lost 1:2 at home to Brighton at the start of the season and even 0:4 at Brentford on matchday 2. After the many setbacks in recent years, the once glorious traditional club had reached a new low. However, the drastic measures taken by coach Erik ten Haag seem to have worked quickly.
Even away things are going well again
Against Liverpool, Manchester United won quite surprisingly on matchday 3 with 2:1. As the Reds only scored the connecting goal in the 81st minute, this success has actually been quite clear by current standards. This was followed by a 1-0 away win at Southampton FC, before United also won their most recent away game at Leicester City 1-0 last Thursday. After a season-long run of seven (!) away defeats in a row, Jadon Sancho & his colleagues finally seem to be delivering again in foreign stadiums.
However, it was primarily the defence that was responsible for the success, after all, the Red Devils have conceded only one goal in the last three games. It is definitely noticeable that there is a new centre-back duo with Varane and Martinez since matchday 3. We don’t want to join in the mockery that Harry Maguire has to endure, especially on the net, but from a purely sporting point of view, the defence really does seem to be in a better position at the moment without the former captain.
Man United facts & analysis
– 9 points from 5 games.
– Most recent 1-0 win at Leicester
– Only 1 goal conceded in last 3 games
Arsenal form & balance check
The visitors from London have started the season even better than their upcoming opponents from Manchester. In the meantime, there were many doubts about Mikel Arteta’s work at Arsenal FC, but by now he should have convinced all critics that all it took was some time and a few isolated reinforcements for him to lead the tradition-rich Arsenal FC London back to the top of English football.
Gunners alone at the top
Five games, five wins – no other Premier League club can currently match the Gunners’ perfect record. Even the Citizens are currently only chasers due to their draw against Newcastle. But don’t get your hopes up too high too soon, because Arsenal haven’t faced a single top team yet.
New signing Gabriel Jesus, in particular, has proved to be an absolute reinforcement so far. The Brazilian was overshadowed by many other stars at Manchester City and was not able to develop his potential as well as he is doing now with the Gunners. He has already scored three goals in the first five games and is livening up the attacking play immensely.
Arsenal facts & analysis
– 15 points from 5 games.
– Last win 2:1 against Aston Villa
– Lost only 1 of last 8 duels with Man United
Predicted line-up – last updated on 2 September 2022
United could stick with the winning eleven and field unchanged. However, Casemiro could conceivably come in for Christian Eriksen against the extremely in-form Gunners to provide more stability. Cristiano Ronaldo will again be on the bench.
The Gunners will most likely have to do without a key player in Martin Ødegaard. He was substituted injured in the home win during the week. Eric Smith-Rowe is expected to replace him in the starting eleven. Olexandr Zinchenko will also remain out with a knee injury.
