Everton FC vs. Liverpool FC

The English Premier League is really hitting its stride these days and fans of the 20 teams can already look forward to the sixth matchday in the best league in the world this coming weekend. On Saturday at 13:30, all eyes will be on Liverpool. There the Merseyside derby between the Toffies of Everton FC and the Reds of LFC is on the schedule. Both teams have started the new season quite differently and what we think about this duel, you can find out in our Everton – Liverpool tip.

Everton FC have picked up this season exactly where they left off last season. The team of coach Frank Lampard is still waiting for its first win and with three draws and two defeats it is currently only good enough for 17th place. LFC’s mood is much more relaxed. Liverpool recently won 2-1 against Newcastle United and the Reds are now on eight points. Nevertheless, fifth place is not likely to be Klopp & Co.’s ambition.

Everton Form & Balance Check

Everton FC’s Toffies are truly not going through an easy time at the moment. The first five games of the new season have been played and Everton are still waiting for their first win. During the week, the Toffies faced Leeds United, who are currently on a strong run, and managed to get a point at Elland Road. In recent years, Everton have always been among the teams that could knock on the door of international business. Since the last season, however, they have somehow gone off the rails. Having narrowly escaped relegation, this season should finally see a return to calmer waters. However, there is still little sign of that at the moment.

Richarlison is gone

The Toffies have not made a very good impression so far, especially in terms of transfers. With Richarlison, by far the most dangerous player was transferred to Spurs in London and in return, Onana, McNeill, Maupey and Coady came to Goodison Park, who do not bring the team of coach Frank Lampard forward in the offensive. This is also noticeable in the bare numbers. The Toffies have only scored four goals in their first five games. Against Liverpool FC, therefore, they will have to show much more power in the attack.

Everton facts & analysis

 – Weak start with 3 points from 5 games.
 – Last played only 1:1 against Leeds
 – Big problems on the offensive

Liverpool form & balance check

Liverpool Reds didn’t necessarily get off to the best start of the new season. The eight points are as “bad” as they have been for years. The Reds would almost only be on six points at the moment if they hadn’t won the game against the Magpies from Newcastle 2-1 in the 98th minute last Wednesday. Especially in the first half Newcastle were the better team and the Reds were trailing for the fourth time this season. Firmino and Carvalho were able to turn the game in favour of the 2020 champions in the end.

The Reds mostly sleep through the 1st half

The big problem for the Reds in the first few games of the new season is clear. For reasons that have so far been inexplicable, coach Jürgen Klopp’s players are never at full strength in the first 45 minutes. In view of the upcoming match against Everton FC, Liverpool must get a grip on this problem as soon as possible. It is good for LFC that record signing Darwin Nunez will be back in the side next Saturday after his assault and three-match suspension. That gives LFC one more option on the offensive end.

Liverpool facts & analysis

 – Mixed start with 8 points after 5 games.
 – Overslept most of the 1st half
 – Last win 2:1 against Newcastle

Predicted line-up – last update on 1 September 2022

Everton FC will be looking for their first win of the season against Liverpool FC in the derby after their 1-1 draw with Leeds. The Toffies are once again relying on a 4-3-3, with new signing Onana expected to keep the central area tight, as he has done recently. Gray, Gordon and McNeill should relieve the defence. Liverpool FC can finally rely on the services of Darwin Nunez again. The newcomer will fit centrally into the attacking front three. Salah and Diaz will flank him.
