Manchester United vs. Liverpool FC
After the players of the 18 other Premier League clubs have played their third league match on the weekend, they can still watch the top match of matchday 3 on the couch on Monday evening. But at the moment it can only be called a top match because of the big names. After a look at the – admittedly not yet meaningful – table, the clash between Man United and Liverpool is more of a relegation battle. The rivalry at Old Trafford will kick off at 21:00.
It is the first time ever that these two clubs meet without a win (excluding matchday 1 duels). Both the chaos club from Manchester and the Reds are still waiting for their first treble after two completed games and want to finally break the spell with a success over their arch-rivals on Monday night. Our Man United vs Liverpool tip will tell you who we think is more likely to do that.

Man United Form & Balance Check
It really is cinematic what is going on at Manchester United at the moment. Many pundits were sure that things would finally start to look up again for the run-down traditional club under the management of Erik ten Haag. However, the start to the new season was even more disastrous than even the most pessimistic fans could have imagined. From the first two league games against Brighton & Hove and Brentford, the Red Devils did not take a single point. Much worse, however, was the manner in which the defeats occurred.
The next low point
First matchday, home game against Brighton – not an easy task after the Seagulls’ strong last season, but a doable one to start with. But after only 39 minutes the English record champions were 2-0 down and picked up exactly where they left off last season. Even Cristiano Ronaldo could barely make an impact after coming on as a half-time substitute, with nothing more than a 1:2 goal from an own goal.
Last weekend at Brentford, however, the Red Devils managed to undercut that performance. Last year’s thirteenth-placed team sent United home again with a whopping 4-0 win. It is once again a new low and we can be extremely curious what reaction the team will now show in such an important game against Liverpool.
Man United facts & analysis
– Lost 4-0 at Brentford last time out.
– 0 points after 2 games
– Winless in 8 duels with Liverpool
Liverpool Form & Balance Check
The Reds will also not be satisfied with their start to the season, but of course they have completely different goals and demands than their upcoming opponents from Manchester. After the 3:1 victory over Manchester City in the Community Shield, the anticipation for the league opener was great, but only a 2:2 draw resulted at FC Fulham on matchday 1. At the latest after the second draw in the second game against Crystal Palace (1-1), it is clear that the team has not yet easily coped with the departure of Sadio Mané.
Reds still need time
The new players – above all red sinner Darwin Núñez – will of course bring their qualities onto the pitch sooner or later. The only question is how long the maturation process will take and whether it won’t already be too late with regard to the championship title they are striving for. An extremely important step in the right direction would be a commanding away win in Manchester on Monday evening.
A look at the statistics should encourage LFC fans. The Reds have not lost any of their last eight meetings with Man United and could win this duel for the first time ever for the fourth time in a row. A third successive away win at Old Trafford would also be a first.
Liverpool facts & analysis
– 2 points after 2 games
– Last 1:1 against Brighton
– None of the last 8 duels with Man United lost
Predicted line-up – last updated 20 August 2022
There will definitely be changes at United after the disastrous performance against Brentford. Captain Harry Maguire, Luke Shaw and Fred could all move to the bench, but after the recent performance it could actually be almost any player.
Liverpool will have to do without the red-banned Nunez. With Firmino and Jota also still out, Salah could play up front and Harvey Elliott could play on the wing.
