ATP Tournament in Halle, 1st Round, Tuesday, 14.06.2022

There are only a few days left before the third Grand Slam tournament of the year starts. Before it gets down to business in Wimbledon, there are still one or two preparation matches on the agenda.

Germany’s best player, Alexander Zverev, will not be able to compete in Halle, so hopes are pinned on the other participants. One of them has drawn a really strong opponent right away in his first round, at least if he is up for the match.

In my Kyrgios Altmaier tip, I reveal which bets are particularly suitable and why you always have a chance against the extroverted Australian on a good day.

Did anyone really believe that Nick Kyrgios would only cause a stir with sporting matters in Stuttgart? The enfant terrible only wanted to play one tournament on clay and immediately returned to the fast green grass.

On the Neckar, he once again had it all. The result was actually quite good with the semi-finals. He defeated Jiri Lehecka 7-6, 6-3, Nikolos Bassilaschwili 6-7, 6-4, 6-3.

Afterwards, it suited him that Marton Fucsovics had to retire at 6-7, 0-3 from his point of view. Veteran Andy Murray finally disenchanted Kyrgios with a 7-6, 6-2, but not without drama.

Discussions with umpires and spectators, point deductions, Kyrgios performed as you know him. He accused the fans in the stands of racist remarks, this incident is far from being cleared up.

Which Kyrgios should we expect in Halle? He can still beat any opponent in the world. The question, though, is whether he wants to on match day. It is the first time he will be competing in the upcoming tournament.

A double premiere, because Daniel Altmaier has not yet met him in the main draw. Although both are right behind each other in the world rankings, the betting companies have picked a clear favourite.

Nobody should be blinded by his elimination in the 1st round in Stuttgart. He lost 6-7, 6-7 to Oscar Otte, the man who had champion Matteo Berrettini on the brink of defeat a little later!

He showed that he can deliver great performances, especially in Germany, when he won the Challenger in Heilbronn a few weeks ago. The 23-year-old still loses too many close matches, even if he can already annoy the really big ones.

It would be a real premiere for him if he could get through the first round in Halle. Last year he played in the main draw for the first time, but was eliminated by Jordan Thomposon. Now Altmaier is desperate to avoid losing again to an Australian!

My Kyrgios Altmaier Tip

Once again, the question on my mind now is: how motivated will Nick Kyrgios be to get to work? A few days ago in Stuttgart, there was another huge bang, so a lack of motivation cannot be ruled out in Halle.

In my analysis, I could see that Kyrgios almost always plays a tiebreak. Daniel Altmaier also stood out in Stuttgart with exactly such results. Since I trust the German to keep up well, my tip recommendation is therefore:

At least once it will go into a tiebreak!
