Leeds United vs. Chelsea FC
The Premier League makes up for some postponed matches in the coming week. For example, Liverpool FC and Manchester City go into the next round of the exciting duel for the championship, and the derby between arch-rivals Arsenal London and Tottenham Hotspur is also on the agenda. In addition, Chelsea FC is another top London team in action, it goes to Yorkshire to Leeds United. This game was originally scheduled for matchday 33, but kick-off is now at Elland Road on Wednesday at 20:30. You can find our prediction in the following Leeds vs Chelsea tip.
The hosts are still struggling to stay in the league. With three games left to play, Leeds have slipped to 18th place in the relegation zone. 34 points are as many as their rivals Burnley have collected in 17th place, but it could still become critical at the end of the season. Chelsea, on the other hand, do not have these worries as usual. The Blues have collected 67 points from 35 games and are in third place behind the dominant top duo. With a five-point lead over fifth place, the Champions League is all but assured.

Leeds Form & Balance Check
The once-glorious Leeds club are threatened with a return to the lower tier just a year after their acclaimed Premier League return. The Whites have fallen victim to the always difficult second season after promotion after a strong comeback season this year. As a result, even success coach and icon Marcelo Bielsa had to take his hat when the results were unsustainable for an extended period. Under former Leipzig coach Jesse Marsch, Leeds picked up more points, but the league situation has hardly improved. The multi-million project in the football-loving city threatens to fail for the time being.
March’s rollercoaster ride
Since taking over from Marsch, Leeds have had ups and downs. It started with two defeats against Leicester and Aston Villa, but then five unbeaten games in a row followed. The Whites won three of them, with opponents including the now relegated basement children Watford and Norwich. In the last two games there were two more defeats against Manchester City and Arsenal. While Leeds hardly had a chance in the 4-0 defeat against the Skyblues, the defeat at the Gunners was quite close with 1:2. Although Arsenal led 2-0 early on and then had a long spell on the front foot after Ayling’s red card, the Whites made it tense again with a second-half goal from Llorente.
Leeds facts & analysis
– 18th in the Premier League, 34 points from 35 games.
– Last lost 1:2 at Arsenal
– 2nd defeat in a row
Chelsea form & balance check
The Blues have faltered somewhat this season after a strong start. As a result, they were forced to bow out of the championship race relatively early on, with Liverpool and City finishing a notch above them after all. Nevertheless, Chelsea have their sights set on Champions League participation once again, where the defending champions lost out to the furious Madrilenians in the quarter-finals. There is absolutely no shame in that this season, however, as Real have also already knocked out PSG and, most recently, Manchester City in several magical next in the top flight.
Disappointing draw against Wolverhampton
Now, Chelsea’s final league games are all about locking down the Champions League and defending third place against Arsenal. To do so, however, the Londoners desperately need an upturn in form, having recently lost three games in a row. Against a Man United team lacking in form, Chelsea could not get beyond a 1-1 draw, followed by a defeat against Frank Lampard’s relegation candidates Everton. Last matchday saw another draw against Wolves, which no one at Chelsea should be happy with given the way the game went. Lukaku had given his team the lead with a quick brace, but Wolves actually equalised in the seventh minute of injury time at the end.
Chelsea facts & analysis
– 3rd in the Premier League, 67 points from 35 games.
– Last played 2:2 against Wolverhampton
– Winless in 3 games
Predicted line-up – last updated 9 May 2022
Jesse Marsch is slowly running out of options at Leeds. Especially at right back there is a shortage after Dallas’ injury and Ayling’s suspension, Shackleton will probably have to help out here. Otherwise, due to numerous absences, there have been almost exclusively players from the U23s on the bench, only Struijk would still be an alternative. The Blues have also had a number of players out of action recently. Tuchel therefore did not change his starting eleven too much in the most recent games. Lukaku and Werner could again start together up top, but Havertz is also an option.
